NO! this certainly is not 'normal'. To have your cat clinically dead during a routine procedure is not normal. Did your vet do presurgical screening blood tests? I assume this is a young cat, being just spayed. Either the anesthesia was not administered correctly or she had a reaction to it. I would stay very far away from that vet forever, unless you intend to sue them!

Sometimes cats re-act to the drugs the given... which is why animals are given gas sometimes.. it can happen .. your Mum would have signed a paper allowing the op' to go ahead knowing that complications can occur from time to time..
But your cat sounds fine ... and there is no need to worry to much.. unless your animal has some brain damage... but very much doubt that.. be happy love your cat and her after care is just as important, any worries - talk to your vet nurse

This can happen with anesthetic even with people. They should have given you paperwork and verbally explained that there is ALWAYS, at any age, a risk with anesthetic. Even with pets that have had it before, things can happen. Most vets offer a pre-anesthetic blood work to check all the internal functions and organs to assess additional risks. Pets, like people, can have internal problems that aren't obvious through a physical examination. If your kitty ever has to have anesthetic in the future I would ask for a pre-anesthetic work up. You are lucky that your kitty was able to pull through and that the vet and staff did everything to try to and save her. Best wishes.

i did a little volunteer work for a low cost spay neuter clinic a few years ago, and none of the cats had a problem, though the vetrinarians did warn us that there could be complications with some animals and to observe them closely when they were comming out of anesthesia, pet them brush them rub them keep their blood fowing etc.
your cat is past the danger point now...she should be fine...
i worry like you do too, about my cat...your cat is lucky to have you.

If she had an allergic reaction to the anesthetic, she should not have a repeat of heart stopping. Glad to hear she's ok, whatever the cause was.

Your spelling and grammar are terrible, but I think I understood what you are saying.
Did the vet explain what caused the cats, heart to stop? Sometimes there are complications in surgery, thankfully your cat survived.

Don't worry about her... she is fine. Because you spayed her at a elderly age then she just had a minor flaw during the surgery. And she is fine because she doesn't remember being unconscious.
