I have actually spent the last month looking for a new job. I was waiting on someone I knew to get me into a company as a supervisor and that didn't seem to work out well at all. They took forever to call, and gave me the run around the whole time. I actually ended up getting a job with a company that I do not know anyone at. I just typed up a good resume (all true things about me) and had a great interview. Sometimes it takes a while and it's just the luck of the draw. I interviewed with a lot of people but none of them seemed to be a good fit, so I am actually very happy I decided to apply at this other company. Good luck if you are looking for a new job!!

I am the President of a small Executive Search Firm in Atlanta, and I can tell you the best thing to do when looking:

1. Have a strong resume representing your background; and always cater it to every position you are applying for.
2. Post your resume on Monster, Career Builder, etc... (at least three job boards and use a different email address for each one to manage the boards with the most responses).
3. Make a list of about 20 companies you would really like to work for, and then find out who the hring manager is for the dept you are interested in looking. (they may not have anything available or posted today, but does not mean they are not hirng - sometimes the best jobs are NOT posted).
4. Tell everyone you know that you are looking (insurance agent, banker, neighbors, etc) and ask them "who do they know looking for marketing people (for example)".
5. And be assumptive positive (meaning I'm going to affect change)... remember massive action creates massive results.... you will find something... give your search about 5 to 6 months with a secondary goal of 60 days. You would be amazed at the impact you can make. :)

Not necessarily. I have gotten most of my jobs on my own.
The job I have right now I did get through someone I met, but that is not the only way you can get this job.
You just need to keep trying. When you give up that is when you fail!

You know I have several family members that think that. But, I must say in my case the best jobs I have got I did not know anyone at the companies in which I got hired. Just dazzle them in the interview.
