I'm a Spanish native speaker, but I speak the "rioplatense" variation, which is considered by many people as the most interesting and informal type of Spanish - so I prefer this one. I sometimes find it hard to understand people from Mexico, not to mention those from Spain :s

I like the sound of Río de la Plata Spanish (Argentina / Uruguay) the best with it's pronunciation of words like lluvia, Mayo and cordillera as "zhoo-vee-uh,' "Mah-joh" and "kor-dee-zhair-uh."

However, from a lexical point of view, I think that Mexican and Puerto Rican Spanish are the most interesting. For example, Mexican Spanish has words like chango (monkey) durazno (peach), despota (bossy woman), joto(lón) (homosexual) , rateros (hoodlums) and El mero chingón for (The head honcho / The big cheese).

Likewise, Puerto Rican Spanish has gems like conflé (cornflakes), picza (pizza), lonchera (lunch box), guagua (bus) even guaguita de mantecado (ice cream truck) just to name a few.

I have a Spanish instructor now that is from the Basque country of españa, and hearing her accent from there (Bilboa) using the pronounciations of españa are very interesting. That, and she has a "bubbly" and outgoing personality that makes the language fun to listen to.

For me, growing up in Texas, Mexican Spanish only reminds me of migrants, and people struggling to survive. I know that it's not true for all Mexicans, but it's hard to extinguish the image from my head after only seeing that image for my entire life while I was growing.

I AM MEXICAN BUT I HAVE FAMILIY IN MEXICO, ARGENTINA, AND SPAIN. THE PROPER SPANISH IS THE ONE FROM SPAIN BUT I LOVE MY MEXICAN SPANISH AND I LOVE ARGENTINIAN SPANISH BECAUSE ITS A MIX OF SPANISH AN D ITALIAN. THE BEST SOCCER ANNOUNCERS COME FROM ARGENTINA AND MEXICO. I CAN SPEAK WITH A SPANISH ACCENT NO PROBLEM AND I LOVE MOCKING THE SPANIARDS EVEN THOUGH MY PARENTS HAVE A LOT OF SPANISH FRINEDS.
