That was my very first job as well! I was a cashier at a grocery store. Learning the register is a piece of cake. You'll catch on pretty quickly. The one thing I do remember is that the first few days, I would hear the sounds of the register in my sleep :) Good luck!

Don't worry too much. You are right to be concerned. Many people are unable to hang on to their jobs, so they are unable to have a long term future.

Just turn up well presented (dress nicely, but conservative). Be polite and friendly to everyone you meet (don't expect people to be friends, but be friendly).

Listen and ask questions. If you don't know how to do something, ask colleagues or your supervisor.

Your supervisor may or not be a good person. But you need to learn how to do your job. Keep asking.

Oh, bring a notebook and pen to write down information (they should give you this, but from experience they may be giving you information that you can't remember and you have no where to write it down).

Bring a cup or a bottle of water (because maybe there is a water fountain, but no cups) and you don't want to spend your whole day thirsty.

Relax, and you will be fine. Mistakes are what everyone makes, so expect to make a few. Apologise when you do (even if your supervisor didn't train you properly) and learn how to fix them.

Congrats on job. the register is not hard at all. Only take your time with any money transactions. If u feel that someone is trying to pull a fast 1 on you... close register and call your mgr. I have been a MGR and don't care if my employee called b/c they were not sure of a transaction. I would rather that then being too short at the end of the night. Put your best foot forward and always smile no matter what...any problems let your mgr handle it.......GOOD LUCK!!!!

Congratulations on the job.
Soon the register will be second nature.
You can expect customers to talk most of the time and some of them will be nasty and rude -just remember to be as polite as you can be , smile, nod and, go on the the next person.
Try not to take things too personally and never leave the stores money unattended or trust any one else with your drawer.
