If man can be created from dirt, and a woman created from his rib...then why can't a jolly old fat man go around the world in one night delivering toys to all the kids who celebrate christmas?

I just don't get how you can read the story of Adam and Eve and not have one OUNCE of incredulity? I understand faith and all...but isn't that pushing it? Cause I mean...to take a few science courses...doesn't that kind of put that 'hmmm, can that be true?' in your mind?

So santa's not real just because you've never seen him, and your parents told you 'the truth'? Have you ever seen Adam and Eve? Have you ever seen any historical accounts of them BESIDES in the bible, which is NOT historic? I'm telling you that Adam and Eve aren't real, just like your parents told you santa wasn't real...doesn't that make it sort of the same then? Besides, there WAS a St. Nicholas....

Is the story of how you were created really all that more believable (in the absence of proof)?

Imagine a six year old child (my son is six). He asks where he came from...and I tell him that he was made in a baby factory and Mommy picked him up at the hospital OR I tell him that Daddy put a tiny fish like thing inside Mommy where it found a microscopic egg cell and the two merged...then I explain cell division and how he grew and eventually came out of very small hole in my body. The latter is the truth of course, but the first story isn't necessarily false. Which one would the child understand and believe...the least complex explanation of course.

Yes, I can take science classes and start thinking, "how can that be true" but that makes sense to me...as we get older and our knowledge of the world increases, the simplistic stories we were told about various things as a child no longer satisfy our curiosity. However, that doesn't mean that all those stories were lies.

Personally, I think the story of Adam and Eve is the truth...just not the whole story. The story of creation reads like a children's fairy tale...to me, that makes it all that much more believable!

When you think about it, the people of that time couldn't have understood a more complex explanation. They had no understanding of even the most basic scientific concept. Furthermore, when you look at the steps (day 1, let there be light, etc...) they are entirely consistent with what we (mankind) have discovered about the development of the universe since we were exiled to the earth, just "dumbed down" for an audience that thought stars were lights in heaven (not necessarily wrong, just simplistic) and didn't know the meaning of gravity or atom or anything else.

The creator answered the inevitable "where did I come from" question every child asks with a story that was the truth in terminology they could understand. I know of no evidence, from my science courses or anywhere else, that's inconsistent with the story of creation.

Great question, Low Rain! Thinking people should, of course, question much of the story of Adam and Eve which was written, let's face, a very long time ago and contains allegorical imagery meant for primitive minds. Modern thinking people should very rightly demand more from this story.

Eve was not created from Adam's rib. This imagery is confused with real events that took place half a million years before Adam and Eve ever arrived on Earth.

Adam and Eve arrived on Earth almost 38,000 years ago. They were not the first human beings. In fact, they were not even human beings but of an order of being called The Material Sons and Daughters, a material, sex-reproducing order of being capable of mating with humans. Their mission was to come to earth, as the Adams and Eves do to all inhabited planets, and establish the Violet Race. Once their direct-line progeny reached a million people, they were to go out into the "races of men" and choose life-long human mates. In this way, they were to contribute their superior DNA to the human gene pool. Of course, they never fully accomplised their mission because of the so-called "sin" of Eve.

For more on this fascinating story and this amazing couple, I highly recommend the book Adam and Eve - A Tragic Love Story. This is a serious and scholar work and I think you'd enjoy it. Good luck!

I don't know about all of that , but why did you pick the name low rain.. Thats pretty cool, i just don't know why...

by the way the only thing that I can think of is some alien landed on earth and since they had a shortage of women, took a part of adams rib and did a genetic clone to produce the woman... Wouldnt that make adam and eve inbred?

If you were an alien on a ship would you give up one of your women or just make a clone for Adam?

Have you ever heard of Lilith? In Jewish folklore, it is said that after God created Adam from dirt, he created a woman for him also out of dirt. But Lilith refused to be subservient to Adam and therefore was banished and Eve was then created from Adam's rib. With much better success, if the story is to be believed. Ever since, Lilith has been considered a demon. Anyway, I believe in evolution not creation but everyone is entitled to their opinion no matters how unrealistic. Live and let live, says I. I quite like that Lilith tale though. Check it out.

Only stupid people believe in Adam and Eve. It is interesting to note that on all ancient paintings of Adam and Eve one can see their navels. But navels have only those humans who were born inside a womb! Adam and Eve were supposed to be created by god. Go figure.

Because Allah, Buddha, Vishnu, Krishna, Zeus, Flying Spaghetti Monster, etc. are false man made "Gods", Jesus is the truth. The bible spoke in many parables. Jesus spoke in parables. Humans had to have been created somehow.
