The MYTH that ANYONE can just get Canadian Citizenship is JUST that...

Even BEFORE September 11, it would take an immigrant YEARS to become a citizen - often with NO ability to make any sort of a living during that time.

As an American citizen, it should be fairly easy to get a work visa - but Citizenship (which you need if you plan to stay for a while) is a FAR different story (as Sumar N mentioned).

Hello,

It takes about three years to get citizenship in Canada. That said you can come to Canada to work, especially in Alberta where there are big labor shortages and laws have been slackened a little..

When you come, find an employer who wants to hire you. He must then make a letter telling you that he needs your expertise, how much he will pay you, what your responsibilities are and where you are located. Take this letter to immigration, fill in some forms, pay a 150.00 Cdn fee and you have a work visa for one year. The only catch is that you can only work for this one employer. If he or she does not treat you right you can change jobs but you must get a similar letter from a new prospective employer and do the process again.

After one year's work you can apply for permanent residence.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

Canadian citizen

Research - Just helped 20 + people over the last month go through this process.

Canadian government is very bad!

I spent over three years looking hard for a job in Canada through the internet. I studied a lot about the Country. I got to know a lot about its culture, geography, history, politics and so on.

It was very hard but I got to find a job approved by HRSDC, in February of this year, to work in Edmonton, Alberta.

I submitted all required documentation to the Canadian consulate. For my surprise the immigration officer refused my work permit. He said that I do not have strong economic ties to my country.

Is it not prejudice? Is the opportunities only for riches? Is not an unemployed an human?

I tried to go legally, I did everything within the law. I had employer and place to stay. But what was the advantage of doing that legally? None - Canadian government refused my visa!

you must be legal in Canada at ALL times, so a month before your 6 months is up and the application for PR is not finalized you must apply to extend your stay........................BTW border control has the right to limit your stay to less than 6 months if they choose to you can not attend school with until you are granted PR so you will be an international student til then if you intend to study right away you will find the info to extend your stay in the orange section on the right side of this page

So I have the detials you need...

Web-site > www.cic.gc.ca
E-mail form > http://www.canada.org.uk/visa-info/general/email_e.htm

This is for the United Kingdom, but you can navigate to the Canadian site so that you can go by your nation to Canada.

Depends on your current citizenship, age and skills - I wouldn't say Canada is "easy" - go the immigration website http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/citizenship/index.asp and check it out...good luck
