If you have one bored dog, don't get him a friend.. cause then you'll have 2 bored dogs.. It's okay to get a dog for them to play with , or to be with.. But don't expect a 2nd dog to get rid of the boredom in a first dog.. You'll have 2 bored dogs and then what?? You should do more with the first dog, YOU be his companion and playmate.

We`have three dogs at home and they are a lot of work. One puppy is bad enough but you''re talking about having two! Don't do it. At least not yet anyway, wait until you've trained your other pup and until it's about 6-12 months old. when i say wait until you've trained your pup, i mean when you tell it to sit, stay, roll over, drop and leave thats exactly what it does. Until you're first pup has mastered all these commands, getting another pup will be a massive mistake. It's just not logical to try to train two pups at once. Training your second pup will be easier if you wait because not only will it have the first pup as an example, it will give you more experience with training.
Not to mention the cost of keeping the animals. For now, if you are worried about your dog being bored or lonely, get it a large teddy bear to curl up and wrestle with as well of plenty of other toys it can play with. A Kong is an essential toy for a dog because you can stuff them with all sorts of yummy treats and they can occupy themselves for hours.
Getting another puppy before you've trained and gotten to know your first one is probably not a good idea.

I have two Scottish terrier dogs I bought 9 months apart and I would not trade them for a million dollars. Having two puppies at the same time may be a lot of work since you do go to school, have homework ,chores etc. I would wait till the first puppy is completely potty trained and stops chewing on stuff before I took on a second puppy. They will still grow up together and amuse you tremendously when they play and chase each other around.Good luck with your new buddies.

Well, I've had as many as 4 in my home. To do it well it's alot of work. 2 is a good number though. I had that for years. Play time is WAY more rewarding, they compete against each other and exercise harder. I DO tend to avoid the type that need constant grooming cause I'm a bit lazy but combing 2 every other day aint bad. I had a pet door and fenced yard so they entertained themselves much of the time. I did have to seperate them daily for their training or feeding times but it was all good....:)

I had bought 2 puppies 13 years ago to keep each other company. As the dogs got older, the one dog started attacking the other one. It got so bad that the one dog pulled out the other dogs eye....After that the dogs had to be separated and that was a pain in the butt. Both of those dogs just passed away, so we got 2 more. Instead of the dogs paying attention to me and giving me some love, they would rather pay with each other. I wish I had only gotten one dog instead.

i have an american eskimo (so much like a pom) and i was interested in getting a shiba!! i would not really reccomend the two breeds unless you have A LOT of patience and can handle A LOT of barking. maybe another breed would be good, i think there should be more than one dog in a family so they have a doggy friend=p

We have "more" and yes it is a lot of work, but we manage quite well. I am home all the time with them while my hubby has an outside job. Thankfully he loves the dogs as much as I do or we would be in trouble...lol To me, 2 or 3 are no more trouble than one. Actually if you only have one, I highly recommend getting a friend.

My byofriend's parents have 3 dogs, my boyfriend and I have 2, and my parents have 2. Yes, it is hard work, but it's so worth it. My dogs are never lonely, they always have companions to play with when I'm at school or work, and it's nice to have so many tails wagging when you get home. I love my dogs, and even when I'm poor, I always spend my last dime on them to get them the best foods, favorite treats, and entertaining toys. Dogs are a lot of hard work, they need love, attention, food, water, exercise, and regular check ups and vaccines. THRY ARE SO WORTH IT THOUGH.

I think if you have a dog he/she should have a companion, for a long time we had my older dog by himself and he was very calm, laid around alot, didnt get alot of exercize, i got a shih-tzu puppy and he has done SO much better , now he is always bouncing around and playing wit hthe other dog, they are alot of company for each other when i cant be right there with them 24/7.
