right diagnose for their child medically (more so in mental health) . Do you think that doctors give the more readily known diagnose then going deeper to look for other problems? I mean like adhd is given to almost any hyper kid today, but do they look harder or deeper for a bigger issue like autism or other mental health issues first. Would love to hear from parents that may have been through this and what they did to make sure their child had the right diagnose.

I think my son has aspergner syndrome, and one counsler he is now owrking with thinks it should have been looked into way before now. I was doing some reading and their are some signs that maybe they should of looked into this but he was just labeled adhd and odd and a mood disorder. I have went anywhere and tried many different things with my son, but it doesnt seem like anything is working. I am just thinking that if he has something else I dont want more years to go by and him keep getting a bum rap , and I as a parent expecting more out of him then he really is capbable of. I just feel horrialbe as a mom that what if all these years have went by with the wrong diagnose and I thought he was fully capable of his "bad " behavior and he really didnt have as much control as I or anyone else thought and he needed different help that wasnt being given..

my child has seen many specialist, and the doctor he has seems to have been a good doctor actually the best one we ever have had honestly. I was just wondering how many parents have had to fight to make sure their kids get diagnosed properly.

My mother went through alot of different doctors with my sister (between ages 17-21) before she was finally diagnosed as being bipolar and put on the correct medicines to treat her. I'm not sure (b/c im not a doctor) but I would assume that alot of mental health problems share some common problems, and its hard to pinpoint what it is. Unfortunately it does not seem to be as easy as looking at an x-ray and saying "your legs broken". I just know that my mother was patient, and willing to try almost anything for my sister, and was willing to go to any doctor to find out what was going on, and after a year now of being properly diagnosed we notice a HUGE difference in her. I'd say "i have my sister back", bc the person she had become wasn't the one I had known before. Good Luck if this is something your going through. I've seen how hard it can be on a mother, and i truly feel for those going through it.

They labeled my brother as barley above retarded (IQ wise) however he was very sick the day of the test and his allergies were bad. So all through school people just thought he was dumb. He graduates, after my mom practically faught the school. A few months later he finally gets the right diagnosis, he had dyslexia. He remembers everything that he hears though, just has a very hard time reading.

this happened to my mother with my brother. They labeled him special ed then ADHD and she would not accept them she is a teacher and she knew he did not fit. He has dyslexia she had to spend lots of money and go to a few places to get it then reconfrim it. They were diagonsing him from the school couselor not a professional. Many parents just roll over and expect that they know what they are saying She would not. They even tried to hold him back in kindergarten. She took lots of vacation/sick and personal time to be at the school in their face to make sure they did not rail road my brother.
Now in college doing well and has supportive serivces for his learning disability

My question is, Is your child doctor a specialist with vast experience on your child case? If he is not, get a specialist. Seeking experience from other parents is good but remember that getting a good experienced doctor with good knowledge of your child case would use his knowledge and seek more help or assistance from other doctors.
