I'm an RN in New York City and get paid well. Of course, the salary depends on where you are, cost of living, etc. Most hospitals now only accept bachelor's degrees for RNs, which require you to be in school for four years. Other areas to explore include respiratory therapists, social workers, physician assistants (although you are not licensed to prescribe meds like doctors or nurse practitioners), Radiology Technicians, etc. So many choices! Either pick up a book or speak with a job counselor. Good luck!

The job outlook for Biomedical Engineering is promising as our dependency on Healthcare related services increases in the United States. The influx of Baby Boomers into retirement as well as increased pressure on Healthcare reform has been the major contributing factor which is extremely beneficial for Biomedical Engineers which make up less than 1% of all types of Engineers according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

While Biomedical Engineers make up only a fraction of the percentage of all Engineers, the focus on medical and healthcare related problems will allow that percentage to continue to grow over the next 10 to 20 years at an increased rate. Biomedical Engineering is also a very profitable career earning on average somewhere between $50,000 and $60,000. As the need for Biomedical Engineers grows so will the salary.

Registered Nurse: This job is in HIGH demand nationwide and pays decent. It takes about 4 years for the degree. There are a wide variety of sub-fields that RNs work in, very diverse areas in the medical field.

I'd research programs and fields to see if this would appeal to you.
