My brother has not smoked marijuana in 72 days but he still failed the drug test! He was around second-hand smoke the day before the test but only for a second. Is it possible he inhaled some and didnt know it? FYI he has smoked weed more than the average person for the last 10 years of his life. Could it have remained in his system because of how much he smoked in the past?

It's quite possible that he was LYING - to be clean for that long (after being a Chronic user), and to just "smell some smoke"...

Odds are, he sparked a fat doob - and told you that "other people were smoking AROUND him" ;);););)

It isn't surprising that someone will test positive even after they stopped smoking for a long time. The reason that he tested positive is because of the way that the THC found in marijuana acts in the body. The THC binds to the fat cells stored in the body and will remain attacked to the fat cells until the cells "die", get burned off, or "break off". Usually a person will pass a drug test after 30 days of not smoking at all, but the exception is that the are still trace amounts of THC in a person especially if they have extra weight which is found in fat stored in the body. It was just bad timing when he had the drug test since this is when some THC happened to remove its self from the fat and ended up in his urine. I hope this is somewhat helpful and he DID NOT fail the drug test due to second hand smoke. Good Luck

Really matters what test was done and there are a lot of things which can show up. If he also pops pills that will show up. People can be fired or not get a job because of alcohol in the test. When you know you are going to be tested like looking for a job it is best to be as clean as possible or cheat on the test. I know tons of people with where I work who cheat on urine test and the higher companies do a hair test which then the people are screwed. Once a person does a lot of drugs the system will accept them longer as if it is normal.

THC binds to fat cells and can stay in your body for 6+months especially if you were a heavy smoker. If a person works out (burns fat) it can release some of the THC molecules which can become positive on a drug screen i.e. urine screen. To see if this is a spike or a true recent use positive you can send your urine to a lab to run a GC/MS on it which can detect levels in nanograms. Then go get tested the next day and if it is a spike then it should be negative showing that they haven't smoked marijuana recently.

Not likely for either question. BUT, THC, the active component in marijuana that gets people who use the drug get high, can stay in your body for 6 months or longer. The THC binds itself to your fat cells. That may have been how he tested positive for it. Being around second-hand pot smoke for a second is not going to do anything even if he does inhale.

People don't realize that some tests can detect it for many many days and he should have just stayed away from it if he was ordered to. It can stay in your hair for months. No, secondhand smoke wouldn't do it unless it was a cloud, which he should not have been around either. Sounds like it has done it's damage on his brain already huh?

Are you sure it was the weed it picked up? some prescription drugs will show up on a drug test as well, it also depends on what type of test they did as to how long something will show up. Also chronic users will often show up for longer periods than little or typical nonusers.

Yes, a simple saliva swab can detect if he has even had a cigarrette in the last 12 months. It's still there.

Oviously it stayed in his system longer than 72 days, the toxic is still in his body.
