Mine was 18 hours! I didnt get any sleep at all. I cant sleep when I travel and it really sucks.. What about you?

Since you are asking the question on the rail site, I assume you mean by train. I took a 3-day train trip from Portland, OR to El Paso, TX. It took about 30 hours to get to L.A., then had a 15 hour layover before heading on to El Paso. I too, took the sleeper car on both trains, had an enjoyable trip. I slept well and met lots of friendly people. I highly recommend spending the extra money on the sleeper car rather than coach. It's impossible to sleep in coach!

The longest rail journey was a enthusiasts special in 1974.
The longest leg was leaving from Wick on Sunday morning via Inverness, Perth, Glasgow Queen Street (where we reversed and changed locomotives), Carlisle, Birmingham New Street, Oxford, Reading, Paddington (arriving just before midnight - another reverse), Exeter to Penzance arriving mid morning.
From memory about 27 hours in the same train, although with at least five changes of locomotive

I once had a trip that lasted a bit longer than 18 hours.
But, that was back when you could get genuine Owsley 'Blue Cheer'. You know. SF. Summer of '67.
No. Wait. You mean on a train?
Well, as an employee it was Halloween, 1983. I was in helper service. We expired on the hours of service, so we had to wait for another helper engine (no crews available for 12 hour relief) to couple up to our power, while we rode home.
But, as each of four helper engines arrived, their crews expired on the hours of service as well.
20 hours after assuming duty, we finally got home. They HAD to get us home. We had all the helper pool power, and nothin' was goin' anywhere until we got back with it......

Three days: Amtrak Train number 5 (California Zephyr) from Chicago to Emeryville, 6 hours late. Comfortable single sleeper cabin, all meals included in fare.

I drove straight 23 hours. No stopping except for gas. It was great. Hallucinating without drugs!!! Definately going to do it again.

a ten hour drive to Gatlinburg and the side of the road fell apart and we had to wait for crews to get there and it was a lot of traffic.
