Actually, this is not something that I wonder about. I'm just get really grateful every morning when I reach over and see "Lady" wagging her tail and smiling, waiting for me to get up.
I'm not a morning person either, but it always makes me smile when I see how excited she is that it's morning and it's time to play.

the truth is that dogs and other animals don't need a full nights sleep. Animals such as dogs sleep many times during the entire 24 hour period. Though some will sleep soundly when tired..most of them sleep lightly.. it is the nature of the beast to sleep shallowly.. their senses keep them very alert.. it is their job.. sleep when idle and rested for anything to come.. especially seeing their favorite person getting up in the morning...

My 8 month old puppy sleeps in our bed at night (along with her 4 year old mother) and every morning she walks from the bottom of the bed to my pillow and stands there- looking over me waiting for me to wake up. She'd be a great alarm clock if I needed to get up at 6:30am! Luckily, I think she knows when it's the weekends and I sleep late- so she'll cuddle up with me until around 9:30. However, some mornings the puppy just will not get out of bed. She'll stay in there and if you wake her up, she'll look at you and roll her eyes and then close them. They also tell us when it's time for bed- they'll go lay in our bed, then bark and run back and forth until we come in there. Gotta love dogs :)

My current Whippet, is NOT a morning dog. She sleeps in if I let her and wakes up long enough to go out to go potty and then goes right back to sleep.
I'm off work on disability so she has adjusted to my schedule....not that i have one right now.
If I do want to get up and go in the morning she is fine with that and loves to get in the car. She is just a year old and very mellow for her age. But she does go many places. A BBQ on Monday and a Party on Tuesday.
She puts herself to bed long before me and sleeps many hours. Humans tend to short themselves on sleep constantly. They say they only need 8 hours or 6hrs. or rather than listening to their bodies. I'm have insomnia, so I envy my dogs.
And yes my Whippets' faces are a great way to start the morning.

Dogs sleep a good part of the day and don't need to sleep late into the morning like us humans. They're good to go!

Not really, I usually tend to wake them up and even if they had a bad sleep, they'd be excited to be company with me again hence why they are so happy. They are delighted to see me I'd guess. And I'll be feeding them too as its the morning. Morning walks too. Same as when I leave the house and come back hours later, ha.

Wonder, I don't know about wonder, but it certainly is true. I think the sun rise tell them that it's time to "rise and shine." Any way most dogs get to lay around all day, have someone take care of their every whim, eat a well balanced diet, get enough exercise. Oh, I forgot, they do have a job, and that is to bring you joy.

Doggies can get up in the AM easily (most doggies, that is) because they are not burdened by the idea of going to a job or having to be anywhere.
If there is no pressure to be somewhere in the wee hours of the AM, then getting up is not as big a deal as if you had to be somewhere.
Doggies are magic too.

Dogs are light sleepers..... and they sleep several times a day and night. They have great hearing, and if they hear the slightest noise that is different than your daily routine, they are wide awake, and ready to attack.
That is why they are wide awake and ready to play, when you are still trying to get some sleep.
Their only job is to eat, sleep, play and poop. So by sleeping several times, they are fully energized and ready to go, when the sun, .......and you .........gets up.
