An old college friend's wedding is coming up. I won't be able to attend, but I am unclear if a gift is still neccesary and if so, on what scale. I haven't had any contact with her for over a year, but we did hang out a lot in undergrad. Also, I'm a student, and money is an issue. She's registered at regular homeware stores. Any suggestions?

NO GIFT REQUIRED OR SHOULD BE EXPECTED. SEND A CARD!!

Seriously, please don't feel obligated to send a gift for an acquaintance like this. Your finances are tight, take care of yourself and family first in this case. The rule of thumb for situations like gift giving is: Never spend more than you can afford.

If you aren't attending the wedding you are under no obligation to send a gift.. However, if you were really good friends and you can spare some money send her a nice card and a small monetary gift.. Also, maybe try and re-kindle a friendship and make sure she has a proper phone, address, e-mail so she can contact you... Good luck

don't experience obligated to deliver a marriage present while you're actually not attending the marriage. purely deliver an incredible "ultimate desires" card. in case you opt for for to deliver a modern then why do not you deliver your cousin a quick observe of "regrets" and a modern certificates interior a similar envelope. purely comprise the RSVP card with the observe. or you may return the RSVP card now marked "can not attend" and then deliver a marriage present 2 - 4 weeks till now the marriage date. spoke back via: a qualified wedding ceremony expert / a expert bridal representative / a marriage ceremony officiant

If you are not attending you can send a card and a small gift card for the store at which she is registered. You are not obligated to send a gift for a wedding you do not attend. If you haven't seen her in a year you will probably never hear from her again anyway.

How about a card and a $25 gift certificate to her favorite homeware store? I think it's quite appropriate and thoughtful.

I would say between $25-30. No more than that.

Buy her a toaster or a blender.

Or just give her $50 in a card, if you can afford it.
