My Grandfather 8 generations back was born out of wedlock.

Deut.23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

It wasn't my fault, after all.

it's not your fault, you do not carry the mistake of your fathers.

Entering the congregation of the Lord is not equal to entering Heaven!

I am not a scholar, but this sounds like one called to be a Levite. I will not sit hear and tell you that the old law was repealed and no longer valid I will simply tell you that those born to sinful families have it tough because they are tough wrong from an early age, but this does not mean you are beyond hope. Jesus came to save the lost and make a way for you to enter heaven. We are all sinners saved by grace. We go before the thrown of God and it is Jesus that makes it possible for us to enter in covered by his blood.

Good question!

No it wasn't your fault. However I'll be held accountable for my sin and not the sin of my forefathers. You will as well. The only way we are forgiven of our sin is to repent. Once we repent we become children of God and as a result generational curses are broken. I'll post the Gospel below. It showed my why I needed to repent. I hope you do the same!

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. Heb. 9:27

We are judged by the Ten Commandments.

Ever told a lie?
Ever hated anyone? See 1 John 3:15
Ever lusted after someone? See. Matt. 5:27-28
Ever blasphemed?

For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10

Lawbreakers go to hell.

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Rev. 21:8

This is clear and humbling. However God made a way so we wouldn't have to go to hell. Jesus (God in flesh) came to earth, lived a sinless life, and was crucified on our behalf. He rose three days later defeating death and in turn giving us an escape route from hell. But Jesus did command us to repent. That means to turn from sin to God. The perfect example of repentance is found in Psalm 51.

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15

I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:3

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

You see when you repent God gives you a new heart and new desires and they are desires to serve Him. As a result you are biblically born again! That my friend is good news!

That is not about going to heaven, it is about going to the religious meeting in the tabernacle/temple. Only male Israelites with no physical defects who had observed certain purity rules were allowed into the congregation. This does not mean that other people could not go to heaven.

Compare Isaiah 56, which is about two other groups (besides bastards) who were excluded from the congregation. It clearly says that God loves them no less and will bring them to heaven.

Don't worry ... humans wrote the Bible and can't possibly offer any judgement on you.

I think this joke I heard from another religious friend sums it all up ...

One day, this guy named John died. John arrived at the pearly gates and was met there by a tour guide named Peter. Peter introduced himself and began to take John on a tour of Heaven.

They walked for a while and then came to a door. Peter opened the door and the two of them walked inside. Once inside, John observed one long hallway with open doors on both sides every 20 feet or so as far as his eyes could see.

Peter and John stood there for a few seconds just to soak in the surrounding environment. Every now and then someone would gleefully run out of one door and run through another door, singing and having a great time. Peter then told John that it was time to start the tour.

They walked down the hallway. They stopped in front of a doorway and looked in to a room that was so large it appeared to not have an end. People were everywhere in joyous celebration, having a great time.

"This is the Methodist room," Peter told John.

They walked a little further and stopped again. The same thing was happening in this room too.

"This is the Jewish room," Peter told John.

They continued and stopped at so many doors John could not keep track of how many doors they had stopped at. Every door they stopped at, Peter had a different denomination of all kinds of religions.

"This is the Catholic room ... This is the Hindu room ... This is the Muslim room ... This is the Atheist room ... This is the Mormon Room ... This is the Episcipal room ... This is the Agnostic room ... This is the Buddist room ..." Peter said. He even named faiths John had even never heard of. Every room was the same ... endless, with people everywhere in joyous celebration.

John was amazed at Heaven. Then, all of a sudden, Peter told John he had to be quiet.

"SHHHHHHHH!" Peter said.

They walked further down the hallway and came up on a door that was shut.

"Look inside John ... but be very quiet." Peter said.

John looked inside and saw people just sitting there, quiet and looking like they weren't having much fun.

"Who are they?" John asked.

Peter then replied. "They're Baptist. They think they are the only ones here."

The moral of the joke/story is don't let anyone tell you whether you are going to heaven or hell ... they don't know spit. Only God will judge you ... whatever God that may be.

It was written in order to ensure that people married and the fathers stuck around. Bastard children are children that are not only born out of wedlock, but they never know their fathers. I was more, or less, to keep the institution of marriage sacred. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Only a small percentage of the population and even of the christian community would believe something as senseless as that. I'm sure some of the die hard christians even fall into that category and ignore it.

People only believe in what they want to
