A really full-bodied red wine like a cabernet or a shiraz will overwhelm the subtle flavour of pork; but a lighter red wine like a pinot will enhance it. Some white wines may also be rather strong to drink with pork (eg, oaked chardonnay), whereas others like riesling may not have enough flavour.

As for drinking, that doesn't apply anymore. Drink what you like with whatever you eat. I like prosecco with my pizza...
I can't see the logic in red wine with pork, just because I would never cook pork IN red wine. It turns the meat purple and looks disgusting.

Red wine such as a light Pinot Noir/Red Burgundy brings out the flavors in the meat.
It depends on which herbs and spices you are using, but Pinot or Chianti are my favs with pork.

the answer I got from the wine rep at the store I work at is you serve white wine with light meat, such as pork and chicken and dark wine with dark meat such as lamb or beef. So that is s good gage to remember white with white and dark with dark
