hate is not caused by anything
it is rather the end result and a symptom of many factors such as envy, greed, ignorance, fear, etc etc
all of these factors stem from personal thoughts of our own self worth which unfortunately are constantly under attack through advertising or oppression depending upon where you live on the planet
do tibetan monks feel hate?
i think not and why?
because they let go of self doubt and appreciate life without succumbing to anyone elses opinion of what will make them happy

Hate is the opposite of love.
Some people hate those who rejected them.
Some people hate those whom they think are inferior to them, or do not share the same religion, habits or language.

From this site, I can see that some so-called Christians hate Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Muslims or Scientologists.

In California and the Pacific Northwest in the 19th century, when the place was free for all, the treatment of Chinese by whites amounts to ethnic cleansing, simply because the Chinese were willing to work for a much lower wage.

Some very fine answers...from a Buddhist's perspective, hate is caused by fear and fear is caused by ignorance of the fear's cause...

Thus Hate is caused by Ignorance...

All these are conditions of the consciousness and are caused by the arising of Self within it....thus Self causes all suffering and Self arises whenever we interact with our environment...

To overcome Hate we should release the Self...in doing so we become the Observer rather than the participant in our experiences...in becoming the Observer we then become aware of the arising of the Self and are able to release the feelings and notions which arise with this Self...once these feelings are allowed to remain with the experience they will wane thus when the experience itself fades...

If Self arises and hate arises with it then hate will be allowed to fade when the experience fades thus do we release the Self..thus do we release hate...without the wisdom to recognise the Self, there will be no wisdom to release it...without the wisdom to recognise hate's arising in the consciousness as a result of the Self then hate will also not be released...

To overcome the Self then we must develop Wisdom...in the same way we can overcome Hate...

A Buddhist....

Hate is a strong negative emotion. Like ALL emotions, however, it is the result of making a value judgment. The root of every emotion such as fear, love, hate, compassion, condemnation, approval, faith, hope, desire, and so on, is our ability to INTELLECTUALLY EVALUATE.

First we evaluate something or somebody. Then, we feel an emotion. This conceptual ability of our brain is very quick and it is important for our survival.

All evaluations are not automatically right, therefore all emotions are not automatically warranted. Humans divide all things and people into two categories: things that help us live or help us improve our life and things that do not or make our life worse, or kill us. For the things and people that we evaluate belong to the first group we feel positive emotions; for the things and people of the second group, we feel negative emotions.

Evaluations come from values we have or were taught. Some values are rational, like life. But some values are irrational, like "people of my race are the best and should control the world."

Hatred is felt when someone commits an injustice on purpose and we suffer because of it. We evaluate people who commit injustices as people who do not improve our life or make us suffer. There are endless ways of committing injustices, therefore there are endless reasons to feel hatred.

An education based on Reason would spend some time in school teaching young people that telling them not to hate is not the root of the problem, but only the symptom. The cause has to be identified. Hatred is either justified or not. In order to defend our country from an invader or a terrorist, we MUST feel hatred for him. If some irrational person says that America should change its laws according to the Koran, for example, we should feel at least indignant and expel that Mullah from the country. This type of emotion is rationally justified. But if someone says, "in my religion you should cover your hair or else we'll throw you in a pit to be stoned" that type of hatred is dictated by irrational values and irrational ideas.

I honestly dont' know... i've never really hated anybody at all, in my life. I have been dissapointed with people but never felt an extreme amount of anger towards anyone. I think hate is a by-product of humanity's consistant struggle for power through competition and domination. God did not create hate (otherwise God would hate us all), we did, because we feel the need to prove ourselves: so we hate anything that may be a threat to our status.

Basically, why would anyone hate another person? There is almost never a reason for hate. It's how most people deal with misunderstanding.

For instance, "That guy took my girl", well maybe you were a bad boyfriend (or maybe she's a ****, but that's not the case)? I'm sure she would have stayed with you if she liked you, so if anything, don't hate the guy who took her, hate yourself for not listening or being neglectful of her (so to speak).

The misunderstanding here is that the guy is a jerk and she wanted to be with a nice guy (we'll say) and so he's pissed off at them when he should be angry at himself, but since most people are prideful, they will never turn the blame to themselves... so they always gotta hate on someone else.

So hate does, off-sidedly stem from pride of oneself... there is never a good reason to hate someone, unless they smashed your car, but why would someone do that? There would have to be a reason, however, again, people will overlook all that and just go straight to the hate because it's easy and it sometimes "feels good".

i'm really kinda curious too, why is there hate at all? Some people have been killed because they 'looked' the 'wrong' way. That related back to power, people feel the need to demonstrate their superiority by killing, seemingly, random people... so where is the hate coming from? Apparantly, nowhere.

Bar fights. Another example of total random displays of hate. A bunch of big guys get drunk and start throwing each other around because... why?

I think it all comes from misunderstanding and the guys just don't want to understand so they fight about it instead just to prove who is "right", which in itself is wrong. No matter how you look at it, fighting never accomplished or proved anything.

this is a really good quesiton, i've never really thought about it... but it does seem to me that hate is like an 'activity' that people just do because they like it? There is no real point or purpose to hate.

the next question should be, why do people hate?

I am serious when i say, i have never hated anyone. i ALWAYS forgive and try to understand.

A good question and an old question. There are many answers. I believe that no one is born to hate it is not our natural state. We learn to fear and hate because we avoid pain and reality and will not embrace suffering that is natural. Then our suffering is much worse than it would otherwise be. Hate comes out of an imbalance with our natural selves or by a clinging to a delusional self. If we could learn acceptance and let go of ego we could really diminish or even eliminate hate. If you experience hate I hope you will be able to let it go and respond with tolerance and love. Peace be with you.

what causes hate... ^.^

if you do not know Love, you'll hate..

if you reli know love, you'll learn that love is not something you give to one person, or it will become obsession..

when you reli learn what love is, you'll learn that it is unconditional, and you have to give to everyone you know!! your friends, enemies, family, God, for God first loved you!!

Love is the most precious gift from God.. it did not come from this world, it came from Him that created this world.. therefore, it is the only thing you can find perfect in this world!
if its not perfect, its not love, and will turn to hate..

love is patient and kind, love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. love is not irritable and keeps no record of being wronged. love does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices when the truth wins out! love never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstances..

if the love u have is anything other than the above, it will eventualy turn into hate..

Sometimes it is passed down through generations. Sometimes when we get hurt, it is safer to hate than to let anyone know we were hurt. Unfortunately hate is simply a way of life to some. People tend to hate that which they do not understand.

Ignorance
Lack of understanding which caused hearsay and its most commonly known as a BS.
But it takes a good ignorance to really go astray.

Read it all again for the first time and you will see the error that created all the Terror and we have to clean it up.
