I was a smoker for ten years. I knew damn well when I picked that first on up what it could do, I was just too young to care. That is NO ONE's fault but MINE.
I hate McDonalds. I pack lunch for my kids to school and they don't even know what Coke is.
If you "fall" for the ads then it's your own stupid fault.

The point being YOU DON'T HAVE TO do what they tell you. True you wont be in, hip or cool. But there are a bunch of us. Slim in shape 40 sumptins (and other ages) who are not a slave to the TV. Turn that frigging thing OFF (better yet throw it away) and go for a walk. No telling what you might find. The advertisers would have you believe there is an entire nation doing just what they say. The lawyers would have you believe you have no control of yourself (its somebody else's fault.) Neither of these things are true anywhere but TV.

Thats the number one problem today- BLAMING SOMEONE ELSE FOR WHAT YOU DO- if it isn't advertisers, it the government, or your parents, etc
It's time to use some responsibility, and common sense. No-one is making you smoke, or overeat. Are they coming to your house and putting it in your mouth? Do you kill others because you watch it on tv? Free yourself from the lie that it's not your fault.

So you can't resist advertisements?
How sad for you.
But don't use your lack of self-control as a means to force government into regulating everyone else's life.

Yes, we have the freedom to not be stupid. However many people give up that freedom so they can smoke, chew, pray,...

People will tell you they have free will, but ignore the effects of cultural conditioning. It's true you ultimately make the choice to stuff a Big Mac down your piehole, but when you're hungry and asking yourself "what can I eat?" all those ads start replaying themselves. Ultimately you can only make a choice based on the options you can conceive, and the less you're in rational control (hungry, let's say) the fewer options you'll be able to rationally conceive.
The power of marketing...

*Weak* people do.
Since you're whining about it, and seem to think advertising somehow has the power to negate choice . . . lol.
