Yes.....however, based on the example of Christ, the Lord would even be pleased if we were friends with ammoral and rude atheists. Jesus hung out with all kind of folks who didn't believe and who didn't abide by the morality of the Bible.....and who weren't necessarily respectful.
After all, if we're not friends, how am I going to convince you of the error of your ways :)

Absolutely. Jesus would have done the same (even if a little less respectful).
I have made friends with atheists, spiritists, homosexuals, drug addicts and more. I will be open to share the Gospel and "reason together" with anyone, but I will not judge nor condemn. This is the example Jesus left us with, and I figure He knew way better than I ever will - it says in John 3:17 that He did not come to condemn the world. So, if it is good enough for the King of kings, it is good enough for me. Sin is what it is and it is wrong, but the sinner should be loved and respected.

God is a loving God, and He would want us to love our enemies, and those who deny Him. I don't have a problem with atheists, they are like any other human being and I respect their stance on religion even if I don't believe it or agree with it. They deserve love because God is love.

You know the main thing that gets in the way is that they both seem to try to convert each other?

Yes and No.
No, because God tells us not to surround ourselves with nonchristians for we will convert to there ways.
Yes, because most likely a Christian will try to bring his friend to God.

Ahhh, Really, atheists need to get a life.
Even Jesus hung out with, ate with, and partied with sinners..
P. S.
God dosen`t even see atheists. To him they are already dead..
They are right in the sense that he doesn`t exist. To THEM.. He doesn`t..
