I would say both like everyone else. Because, when we pray or ask God a question, then the answer might be to do something. It's kind of like anything else. When you order food at a drive thru, you have to ask first (like praying), and then you have to drive up to the window (doing)
So, it's both.

God wants you to be "saved and come to a full knowledge of the truth" FIRST.
Then you can pray and do the works He created beforehand for you to WALK IN.

Praying is actually speaking with God.
God is our Father in Heaven.
If you still live at home, don't you usually confer with your parent(s) before doing something that's very important, to see what they would say or how they could help you?
Pray before you act if at all possible.

Something my grandfather said to me after living a good life:
It is better to live the gift of life God gave, than to spend all day in church learning of how God gave it.

I don't know about everyone else, but God definitely wants you to make sentences that make grammatical sense.
