Everyone I know that has the Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner swears that it is the most effective at removing animal hair. My favorite tool is a rubber brush with rubber bristles (I got mine at the grocery store)...the bristles are pretty fine and somewhat "floppy"...brushing the couch with this removes hair better and easier than any other method I have tried. Sorry I don't have a link to one, but I'd try Dr's Foster & Smith, PetEdge, or maybe a local pet store to find one of those rubber brushes.

A new home for the cat.

You could try the anti-shed pills in the pet stores, steam clean the cushions, lint rollers get the hair that is on the surface of your furniture but the hairs that are embedded in the cushions are trapped deep down and steam cleaning helps, but it still doesn't get everything.
There is a Dare Devil steam cleaner for on sale for about $100, if you weigh the amount of times you will use the machine against the professional steam cleaners the $100 isn't bad. Check out www.sears.com and www.bestbuy.com or your local stores. Good luck.

I've had the best luck with just straight vacuuming. I have the Dyson Animal, which was created just for animal owners, it works fabulously, I use the small furniture attachment.

Bed Bath & Beyond and such stores carry a pet hair removal sponge that works alright, it helps get the preliminary hair off. You use it dry, it has a tacky composition to it, so just rub over the sofa, remove the hair, repeat.

I brush my cats a lot to get as much hair off as I can, which seems to help.

Usually at a pet store they'll have a cat section where it has all kinds of cat stuff! Including brushes that are like rubber that you just brush on the couch or furniture item. There's also brushes for the cat for you to brush the loose hair off of them too!

I can't believe no one has suggested duct tape!

I buy a roll of it every time I go to Home Depot. There is no easier and more efficient way to remove loose kitty fur from fabrics than to wrap a length of duct tape around your hand (sticky side out), making a "glove", and then rubbing your hand along the fabric where the hair is.

It can take several "gloves" of duct tape to eliminate a lot of hair, but I will swear there is no better way. It's quick, it's cheap, and it's easy.

Lots of vacuuming!! I also bought a great sponge at Linens n Things specifically for pet hair. It has a static field to it and rolls the hair off when I need quick touch ups and its washable. It's available at pet stores too. We have two high maintenance long hair cats so I live with sticky rollers, the sponge and plenty of vacuuming.

Take a household sponge, wet it & run it
across the surface of the carpet or couch,
the sponge will gather the cat hair much more
quicker & throughly than one of those "pet roller"
tapes, also rubber dishwashing gloves pick
up hair well. Sticky masking tape also.
Good luck!

You could vacuum. Use a lint brush. If you don't have a lint brush just take some tape (big packing tape works best) and wrap it around your hand with the stick side out. Works just like a lint brush and will pick up the hair.

Put on a pair of regular household rubber gloves and run your hands over the couch. The rubber gloves will gather the hair into bunches that you can just pick up and toss away.

Put on a pair of ordinary gloves used for cleaning, you know, the yellow ones you can buy at the grocery store. Rub your hands in one direction over the furniture and the hair comes right off. Works like magic!
