A lot of people say that you can't find proof of homosexuality being a sin in the bible [other than Leviticus]...so explain 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 New Living Translation


9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.


Pretty plain and simple, don't ya think?

Please don't answer if all you're going to say is something like "it doesn't matter cause God or the Bible isn't real." I want sincere input, please. I'm trying to learn more and have a better understanding of the bible. Thanks.

I have asked this question and posted these verses many times. The answers you are going to get are something like this:

"who are you to judge?"..."People are born gay"..."Jesus accepts you as you are"..."everybody is a sinner"...blah, blah, blah...

Homsexuals need to turn away from their sins.

First, let me ask you if the following are sins...

Fornication? idolatry? adultery? theft? coveting? drunkeness? reviling? extortion?

Would you say "yes"? Then you would be right. For these are condemned elsewhere as well. So now you have to deal with 1 Corinthians 6:8-10

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."

So, yes, the Bible makes it plain that it is indeed sin, and in the company of some pretty hefty ones at that. But just make sure you understand that God loves the individual, however, their behavior and life choice will lead them into bondage that will harden their hearts to God's eternal salvation. Because homosexuality involves so much emotional investment, it is almost impossible to tell the them the truth without being labeled with very harsh epithets.

Remember, the sin of homosexuality is no blacker than my sin. And if the Christian truly hated homosexuals, they would keep the message of salvation to themselves, not try to change them, and let them go on their merry way to destruction. But because we care, we take the slings and arrows of 90% of the media and public to speak the truth.

The Bible states that homosexuality is behavioral, for Paul states that many of the new believers had been delivered from homosexuality in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11,

"Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites... will inherit the kingdom of God. And SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God."

It's actually not plain and simple. I hope it's alright, I am going to copy and paste the response I had to a similar question.

1 Corinthians 6:9
1) Back in the day when Paul was writing his letters it was common for people to engage in "fertlity circles", pagan worship and temple prostitution, this is why it would be offensive. But the original word used for "homosexual offenders", arsenokoitai and malakoi, are words that were sort of "lost in translation" if you will. Contemporary Bible scholars believe that they actually mean "male prostitute" and "sodomite" (New Revised Standard Version).

2) Romans 1:21-23 details how the people stopped worshiping God and turned their praises to idols that they had made. Verse 24 says they did "vile and degrading" things. Further translation of these verses shows that this was social disapproval, not moral condemnation. Because they gave up on worshiping the Lord, this was their punishment, that they would go against their natural way (heterosexual intercourse) and were humiliated. Verse 27 says that the men "suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved" This means they were probably deeply embarrassed, as this was not natural for them. As it would be for a homosexual person to have intercourse with someone of the opposite sex.

It is very unfortunate that people choose to use these verses against their own. Especially when many don't even consider Paul's letters to be sound advice for the 21st century. After all he did say that we shouldn't wear jewelry to church and that women are not to talk in a church. This isn't to say that we should disregard everything Paul has to say, I just don't think some of it has any place in our time.

Please consider Galatians 3:28, it says that "In Christ, there is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female...." If we know Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, God Doesn't see us as male or female. So if he doesn't see us as male or female, why would it matter who we sleep with, as long as we are in a lifetime, committed, monogamous relationship (marriage)?

I feel I must tell you that I have only come to this conclusion through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I used to think, not unlike you, that homosexuality was a choice and a sinful one at that. Praise God! He opened my eyes and gave me the gift of curiosity so that I might discover the truth. Trust me, coming to this was a difficult journey, as it went against my initial beliefs, but now I find it my personal mission to make sure that LGBT people know that they are not excluded from God's perfect love.


As straight people, (I assume you are) we cannot judge what it is like to be homosexual. Ask any Gay Christian, and I'm sure they will tell you that God has made them this way. I believe that. Please remember, what meant one thing 2,000 years ago, might not mean the same thing now. We are to love one another like the brothers and sisters we truly are in Christ.

Scapulagirl, I've previously looked into that and asked our preacher who is a Bible major about that word, "arsenokoitai". His response:

"The problem seems to be that the Greek word used here (arkenokoites) is not a common word in ancient Greek. So it’s hard to be definitive about it’s meaning. It appears to be a compound word of “male” and “intercourse” – thus leading to the translation homosexual offenders (NIV). This seemingly is in line with Paul’s theology in Romans 1:26-27, where he calls women with women & men with men "unnatural". While the view being pushed by this poster exists in scholarly discussion, it is clearly a minority opinion. Most New Testament scholarship is in line with the way the NIV has translated the text."

And in your quote of Romans 1, "Verse 27 says that the men "suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved" This means they were probably deeply embarrassed, as this was not natural for them." you actually omitted verses 25, 26, and most of 27:

Rom. 1:25-27 -- 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

I read that as saying because they worshipped created things rather than God, He let them go ahead and indulge in their lust. And in the verses you omitted, it clearly states that they committed homosexual acts. I think you may have just missed some verses there.

The original word was sodomite or sodomy and was only recently changed to homosexual & homosexuality. In some versions homosexuality isn't even in there. The King James version says sodomite instead of homosexual. There is a difference between sodomy and homosexuality. Sodomy is any sexual act other then the basic missionary position. One of the few refrenences to homosexuality being wrong is from the Laws of Moses "a man will not lie with another man as he does with a woman".

OF COURSE it is a sin....one that God judges with a vengeance.

We all are guilty of some kind of sin. One interesting thing to me is that "Thou shall not be homosexual" is not one of the 10 commandments... I believe God. I believe the Bible.

You are right on, I just hope you don't get a violation notice for referring to homosexuals because they do not like to be told the truth,so Yahoo Answers will chose them over you, unfortunately we have to accept the filth of sexual perversion and cannot voice our opinions regarding homosexuality, may God bless.

Jesus teaches about the destruction (Luke 17:29) and judgment (Matthew 11:24) of Sodom and Gomorrah. You need go no farther than the words of our Lord to prove what it is.

to explain it that way makes you sound like a sheep. A mindless follower that cannot think for yourself. If you think about it, most do not choose to be gay, they are born that way, which means that your god put them on this earth that way. So basically, you are saying that he does make mistakes or that he likes to send people to Hades. Your bible contradicts itself so much that it is easier to make sure that you follow a morally good life and just pray..... but not to anyone specific. and if you don't like them, please leave them alone, because to cause them grief is not fair....it would be like me going to your church and telling you that you would never make it to the Summerland because your worship a god that likes to kill relatives.
