I heard that story today too. The bombs were not armed, and in a worse case scenerio, should the plane crash, the bombs would not detonate. This was obviously the media trying to make a big deal out of a very small incident. And using the public's lack of knowledge on the subject - combined with their fears to perpetuate the story. Our lovely media, huh?

Minus warhead.

Since there used to be B-52's with nukes flying 24/7 thru out the Cold War without incident who cares.

I slept 200 yards from a bunker full of the suckers for 27 months. Was never worried. Takes time and more than one person to arm them.

Just a boneheaded, career killing event for some AF officers.

Certainly, they need to be dis-armed so there's no chance of accidentally going off. The rest is the responsibility of the Dept. of Commerce and the military.

I know that it would be ok to transport them by air, if the warhead had been removed and dismantled before transportation. I believe they can be moved by armoured truck, but I am not sure of that
