Hippocrates wrote many treatises on the brain; he believed it was the seat of knowledge and the senses. He was born in 460 BC.

Seriously though, if you're asking who decided that the brain was what made you think, I think Freud pioneered that. But, they still discover what various parts of the brain do every year.

I think it all started in earnest with Phrenology in the 1800s. People though the bumps on your head could tell what kind of person you were. Google it!
