Hi, I've been taking citalopram for about 8 months, and for the first three months I had no, problems. But then about three or four months ago I started having bouts of severe nausea. I would have symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, feeling like throwing up chills and shakes, going on sometimes for hours. The symptoms go on for one to seven days, and then all of a sudden I feel fine for a couple of days. Then it will all come back again.

I've been to see my doctor, who had me do a stool sample and a blood test, and finally she told me that there is nothing more she can do for me. Within the last couple of days my symptoms have gotten much worse and aren't going away at all.

I took another look at citalopram side effects and noticed all of my symptoms were listed. My doctor had me switch today to sertraline to see if it made a difference, but so far I'm still working my way off citalopram. Does anyone have any idea if these are side effects or what else is going on?

I cut & pasted this following excerpt from what you'd see on the package insert of this medication. It reads like this:

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have taken too much of this medication. Symptoms of a citalopram overdose may include nausea, vomiting, tremor, sweating, rapid heartbeat, confusion, dizziness, seizures, and coma.

Did he check your blood for citalopram toxicity? Most medications give what's considered a "normal" range on the package insert. I'm not sure what your doc looked for, but based on what I'm reading above, it sounds like your blood level of this medication is/was too high. Other medications can raise your level of this drug, making you toxic. Were you on any other medications? Even grapefruit juice interacts with many medications, so you've got to consider anything else that might have interacted with it.

Celexa/ Citalopram and Zoloft/ Sertraline are both antidepressants.

Side effects for most if not all drugs which are considered toxins to the body are all the same: nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia; shakes and tremors, dryness of mouth, weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, and oh yeah, dizziness. A whole gamut of lists goes on and on. From the most common to the less common side effects.

Septra was a killer for me. I had very high fever, rashes, and generalized weakness and body malaise and felt like a thousand needles were pricking my body. I had to be given steroids to counteract it. Dr told me I should refrain from taking it. As i's like poison to my body. I reacted after only two doses.

Yet, my sister has no problem with it.

I have been on Lisonopril for years for my high blood pressure problems. Recently, I developed vertigo.. I get very nauseous and actually vomited. I discovered this forum where people complained about the same thing. Even though, they have been taking this med for several yrs. Now, when i skipped taking the meds, I don't feel dizzy.

Individual idiosyncracies to medications vary from person to person.

I was on Prozac for my Bi-polar. I asked the Dr to switch me to Wellbutrim . this med has less side effects and no weight gain. like most antidepressants do. Depakote, a mood stabilizer is also good.

Maybe Zoloft might be better for you. Just drink a lot of water to flush out your system off the Citralopram.
