If not, maybe try finding what material makes the best insulator?
Wrap small containers filled with hot water with different types of material around them. Put a thermometer in and every minute record the temperate drop for 10min. Record your data and you'll find the best insulator!
Material examples;
Cotton, Foil, Paper, Nothing, Your hands, Flannel, Jeans, etc.

If I knew what area you have an interest in, I could help you easier. If you have some time, plant some seeds, and see what type of soil they like best. You need the same seed, and light, water. The variable could be the amount of nitrogen. You should see them grow, but too much could burn them, or make long, thin, unsturdy plants. If you have good results, you can do something else. Maybe use different light. Blue, green, red, UV... . I hope this helps.
