The difference is that the Catholic Church really discredited itself during the Inquisition by telling the same lies about Protestants and Jews that they did about witches. Oddly enough, they claimed that Muslims "worshipped Apollo."
So, anybody with a hierarchy and enough followers to be a political power is off limits. Witches, being individualists and at best working in small groups are still fair game. That's why many Covens are officially Unitarians.
And Greg. Christians might not call Hindus evil--but they won't let them do the opening prayer in the Senate even when invited either.

To begin with I'd just like to say that I don't believe anyone is evil or that there is only one religion or philosophical system that holds the only possible truth.
As to this, I think it all stems from the fact that Pagans were combated in Europe when Christianity was expanding but not Buddhism and Hinduism. These two religions are much older than Christianity and they have millions of followers so more or less they have become standard religions that Christians many respect or not but paganism was THE #1 enemy of the Church and since two of their deities, Pan and Kernunnos fit the description of the devil provided in the Bible then Christians have a low opinion of pagans. Besides if a system you tried to destroy now intends to come back you'll probably won't like it, even if you have understood that it's not as you may have though it was because if you yo do accept it it means that you were wrong before and that might weaken your position. I think I'm not being clear enough or maybe too messy. Sorry, I'm just writing my thoughts as they come up in my mind.
As to Muslims and Jewish basically worship the same God so they aren't SO wrong as Pagans who worship many deities. Besides, in Occident these two other religions live side by side with Christianity, they have huge numbers of followers, there are commercial ties between people professing them and so and so forth.
I hope you could understand me.
Last comment. if you ask me, the reason why they do this is plain and simple ignorance. They fear what they don't know just like primitive beings afraid of strange creatures. No offence meant, this is just a psychological analysis.

I have nothing at all against pagans or white witches but I think perhaps the reason some people do is because of a misunderstanding about the meaning of the word "witch."
The Bible says that witchcraft is wrong, and even says, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" (Exodus 22:18).
Actually, I think this is one of the errors that can be found in the Bible. (Joseph Smith made a correction to that particular verse of the Bible - It should say, "Thou shalt not suffer a MURDERER to live." IMO, the word of God, as it proceeded from the mouth of the prophet, Moses, did not condemn people for an honest and peaceful way of life, such as yours.)
I think if Christians understand what pagans and witches actually believe and practice, they would realise that these practices DO NOT equate to the abusive or murderous practices that were condemned by Biblical prophets. (See Deut. 18:10)
"Energy workers", "worshipers of Divine Equality", "nature lovers"... That is how I think of pagans and witches.
If people comprehended the Bible, and its central message (love), they would see that the kind of witchcraft that most modern witches practice is nothing like that which was condemned in the OT.
Blessed be.

I sometimes get the idea that some of them are more frightened by Pagans, Wiccans ect. than any other religion which makes absolutely no sense to me because I can't recall at anytime that a witch hi jacked a plane and used it as a bomb. Hell I can't remember a time a Pagan ever tried to burn someone at the stake for being different, but some how we have become these frightening little heathens who walk hand in hand with the devil in the late night hours deciding how best to torture all those who hold God dear to them. To make a long story short, the best answer I can give is...ignorance, that is what causes us to be judged so harshly! On the upside to my fellow Pagans...I will greet you all in "hell" with open arms, since that is where we are all supposedly headed.
Blessed Be

No Lady, I think your question overrates the Christian focus on Witches and Pagans. I know a lot of Christians that have a lot of negative things to say about Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims. Buddhists are usually lumped into the same category as atheists, Hindus are idle worshipers and Muslims (like the Jews) almost made it, but are damned to.
Now the funny thing is, within the different groups of Christians I know they tend to bash each other just as hard. The Baptist love to call the Catholics "Idol Worshipers" because of their focus on Mary. The feud between Protestants and Catholics is often as ugly as anything you see directed at Pagans.

The idea of the devil comes from the concept that 'evil' is personified and exists apart from us. I believe that it does not. Both 'Evil' / 'Devil' and 'Good' / 'Angel' exists within each of us.
I cannot speak for Muslims nor Hindus but I can say that Buddhism, which the practice of recognizing your own 'Buddha' nature (or 'enlightened life condition') is not about the worship of any deity.
If you believe that the devil or angel or God exists outside of you, it will be difficult to see the truth.
As far as Pagans and Witches I am not well versed in this practice but I don't think they worship the devil. I will research more into this practice and try to understand it's philosophy.
Thank you for a most interesting question.

I think many people simply don't do enough reading (of anything besides the bible), or independent THINKING. Satanists and devil worshippers are Christians, in essence. Satan doesn't exist outside of Christianity -- the devil is the Church's own invention. Satanists merely turn Christianity upside down -- they're still reacting to it. Wiccans and Pagans are honoring gods and energies that are far older than the Christian god. They revere Nature. Nature is the closest thing to Reality we will ever know.

There's a certain irony to folks saying that they're against Pagans and Witches because the Bible speaks out against those two... when early Christians are the ones who gave those labels to us. Prior to Christianity's rise, our predecessors didn't call themselves Pagans or Witches, and we only use that label because it's been slapped on us.
However, that doesn't seem to raise a large enough red flag for most people to stop and reevaluate.

My opinion is that witches and pagans are mentioned specifically in the Bible as being opposed to the Jews and opposed to God. I mean, the people that God had the Jews destroy when they entered the promised land were pagans believing in fertility gods and things like that. Whereas Buddhists and Hindus aren't, and Muslims are shown to be of the line of Abraham through his relationship with Sarah's handmaid.
