Ask them.
How do you ask someone why someone else did something?
Most religions however are based on the pretty much the same base.
New religions come about for any number of reasons : Someone didn't agree with a particular aspect, and left their original church. Someone has a differing opinion about whether or not Jesus was the literal Son of God, or simply a prophet. Etc, etc....
It could even be something simple such as a rift between 2 church leaders and one goes off to start a "new" religion with slightly different leanings to differentiate themselves.
There can be no one correct or incorrect answer.

In saying that my religion is right, I am not saying it was the first religion. It was, however, the first form of Christianity. People create new forms for many reasons. One of which is convenience. Gays want homosexuality to be ok, they create a church that tells them it is so. People choose a church based on what they happen to think. It is the wrong way to go about it. There is a truth, and we must all conform to it.

Let me put it this way. It's just like when people make counterfeit money. It was made and put into circulation to fool people into thinking it was real. They make it so good and so detailed that its hard to tell the real money from the fake just at first glance. Just looking it appears to be just like every bill right? Well what do you have to do to distinguish "it" from the real money. You have to look really close, examine it, compare it to what the official makers have done to legitimate money.
Well the same is true with religions. And the counterfeiter is Satan. To fool people into thinking that they are participating in acceptable worship to God. One way he does it is by creating so many different gods and cultural beliefs, causing division.Well just like the many people who get fooled by fake money, many are being fooled by false religion. Believing that what they have is the real thing.
God has specifically laid out in detail the defining mark of His true religion. People due to Satan blinding them from the truth refuse to see that they are a part of Babylon the Great. Or false religion.
I personally am a Jehovah's Witness. And due to my diligent pursuit for the truth, and prayer to God to find it, have found what I believe to be the truth. What I'm saying is based of of what God has laid out as to what true Christians should be and how they should live. Jehovahs Witnesses are the only religion who follows those guidlines. And this info is in mine and your bibles.
Also Jesus mentioned at Matthew 7:13,14 "BROAD AND SPACIOUS IS THE ROAD LEADING OFF INTO DESTRUCTION AND MANY ARE THE ONES GOING IN THROUGH IT. WHEREAS NARROW THE GATE AND CRAMPED THE ROAD LEADING OFF INTO LIFE, AND FEW ARE THE ONES FINDING IT.
Showing that the vast majority of religions though claiming it does not lead to life. But few or the minority of people(not speaking of race people) are the ones finding the right path.
Very simple!

First of all, I am saying that Christianity is correct.
1) Islam, I am convinced, is a product of demonic influence sent to control humanity. I believe that it was supposed to take over the world under the Ottoman Empire, but failed. I believe that the current movement is supposed to be yet another attempt for Satan to control the world, but it will again fail.
2) Mormonism was created by a man who wanted a sort of monopoly on the money and manpower in young America. He knew he could get land, but saw it necessary to change Christianity in a way to keep his people insoluble with the rest of Christianity. In this way he could keep his people sedentary and indigenous to his particular intentions.
All that I just said about both are pure guesses.

Because, after Christ died and the apostles all died, the world was left without church leadership, there wasn't a prophet to lead and guide and teach the word of God. Over the next thousand years, people tried to hold on to the truth, they tried to keep the church running as they thought Christ had left it, but so much was left to the interpretations of individuals. So, there was a division... everyone believing some portion of the truth.

Religions are a dime a dozen. Every man has his god and religions are formed just to appease one's conscience, one's ancestors, one's angry deity, etc. Satan certainly roots for the multiplication of religions.
Christianity, on the other hand, is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, creator of the universe and beyond. And Jesus is awesome!
god bless

Well in all honesty I believe revealed religions were created to enforce hierarchical systems and also made in an attempt to answer the questions the masses wanted answers to.
I am what some people would call a Deist.
Good day to you.

Satan likes to take peoples eyes off the real God, so he influences others to start false teachings. He hates us because we were made in God's image. He can do nothing to hurt God, but if he can get us to believe in false religions, he knows that we will end up in Hell. That one of his highest goals.

Seems to me many have taken...."Freedom of Religion" a bit to far. Sad thing is, when other religions are created many seem to think that makes ALL OTHER religious beliefs null and void, or worse, heathenistic and worthy of condemnation, hate, war, and any other inhumane actions that can be brought against a fellow human being.

Religion is for people that need something to believe in. Know one knows for sure what the truth is, ie: "faith"
People should learn to be more "spiritual" and less "religious."
