Atheists are decided--they do NOT believe in any god or supernatural influence.

Agnostics are not decided; they believe there may be a god or some supernatural or divine influence, although they're not within the clearcut beliefs of any established religion.

Agnosticism is the position that it is not possible to *know* whether a deity exists. It isn't a position of belief, or being "undecided." It isn't atheism's weaker little brother. It is the thought that no one can know whether a god exists.

Atheism is the lack of *belief* in the existence of deities.

Belief and knowledge are not the same thing, and so atheism and agnosticism are not the same thing. A person can be an agnostic atheist (I am) or an agnostic theist, a gnostic theist or a gnostic atheist.

An atheist and an agnostic are not the same. An atheist is someone who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or God. An agnostic is someone who is doubtful and noncommittal about the existence of God, but believes it is impossible to know if there is a God.

nicely i in my opinion evaluate myself an agnostic atheist. I stick to a definition that i think greater suitable describes perception the place agnostic is used as an adjective particularly than a noun. Agnostic can describe, by definition, any stance be it psychological or religious so i don't experience that is going for use as one among those in-between atheist/theist. maximum individuals efficiently have faith one or the different. a number of them have faith it a hundred% yet maximum do no longer as they settle for that philosophically you could still no longer understand something that has no evidence the two way. it particularly is the place making use of the agnostic adjective is attainable in to describe the two somebody's theistic or atheistic ideals. i'm an atheist because it takes faith to have faith in god and that i do no longer take care of faith. The agnostic bit facilitates me to experience greater straightforward in my proffession of perception as jointly as I supply god the comparable point of plausability as Santa or leprechauns and so on., technically i could ought to declare i'm agnostic approximately them too. you may ask why I problem ever making use of the interest agnostic seeing because it may stick to in especially a lot each case besides. the actuality is, I shouldn't different than that contained regarding theism, there ensue to be many dogmatists who're gnostics (small g = adjective, no longer Gnostic perception gadget) and that i could opt to chop up myself from them.

For me, agnostic means that I'm basically an atheist, but I know that I can't really prove for or against a god. Atheists flat out say that there is no god, agnostics admit that they can't know it all, but often lean heavily towards atheism.

An agnostic accepts the possibility of a god or gods while an atheist does not.

Well, I thought I was an athiest because I didn't believe in anything at all. But now I think I might be agnostic because I'm not sure. uh. This religion thing is so confusing. I wish we could just be whatever, and not be labeled.

Atheists say there is no god. Agnostics say that they do not claim to know one way or the other.

An agnostic is someone who doesn't know if there is a God or not. You can be agnostic and lean toward atheism or theism or any number of things. It's just someone who isn't sure.

An atheist is someone who will say definitively that there is no God.

I use the words interchangably. But if you ask 50 people, you'll get 50 different opinions on it.

Basically, look at what the words literally mean. A-theist means "without belief in god."

"Gnostic" means "knowledge" - so it literally means that you don't think it's possible to know whether or not god exists. I've always like the definition of agnostic that says "I don't know and you don't know either."

I don't think there is one, for all practical purposes. It's just that a lot of people are more comfortable with the label of "agnostic".
