Here are the details from the report:
"Prosecutors have said Benoit, 40, strangled his wife with a cord, used a choke hold to strangle his 7-year-old son, placed Bibles next to the bodies and hanged himself on a piece of exercise equipment the weekend of June 22."

What is the significance of this? Was he attempting to follow the biblical example of Abraham with his son Isaac? Or is this schizophrenic-type behavior normal for bible-lovers?

People often characterize atheist as immoral people, but I find that since i've embraced atheism, I realize that "immoral" acts take me further away from the type of world I want to live in and that i have a direct impact on that by the way I live my life and treat others...

Religion, on the other hand, Christianity in particular, tells it's followers that all can be forgiven if you just repent. So you see a lot of people commit immoral acts with impunity because they feel that they've developed this "personal relationship with God" and can simply repent and all will be forgiven.

I wonder if the placement of the bibles was his way of seeking repentance for what he had done or was about to do?

We'll never know for sure, but it is typical of religious psychos to do such things.

I'm not sure why he placed the Bibles by his wife and his son. Maybe he was trying to say that he was sorry for the sin that he had committed or maybe he was trying to comfort their souls. Who really can say because the guy was suffering from dementia amongst other things.
