Frankly, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door to door even if they knew for certain that no one would speak with them. When Jehovah's Witnesses go from door to door to share the bible's message of "good news", they do not ask (or "solicit") anything from the householder. That's why a "No Soliciting" sign has absolutely no meaning to a Jehovah's Witness minister.

There are nearly SEVEN MILLION ministers of Jehovah's Witnesses who preach regularly about the good news of the Kingdom (or, "evangelize").

There are perhaps seven million specific combinations of motivation among these Witnesses, and nearly all of them are pleasing or tolerated by God and Christ. To suggest otherwise is to ignore the bible.

We are not paid to do this work. We preach because of our love for Jehovah and his Son Jesus and for love for our neighbors.
Believe me, there will come a time in every ones life that they will know that we were just trying to help them see the truth and we were sent by Jehovah God to show them the wonderful truths that are found in their own bibles. Christendom is starving the people spiritually and they are leaving the churches. We are there to help people spiritually. We are following Jesus commandment to go and preach through out the entire earth.

Yes, Mormon Missionaries do go door-to-door, like the JW's. Sometimes it is by appointment or referral by another person. And at other times, they are simply going door-to-door to spread the gospel, and share our beliefs.

edit* I understand what you mean by solicit. But we usually call it proselyting. (see below)

pros·e·ly·tize [ próssələ tz ] (past and past participle pros·e·ly·tized, present participle pros·e·ly·tiz·ing, 3rd person present singular pros·e·ly·tiz·es)

transitive and intransitive verb

Definition:

try to convert somebody: to try to convert somebody to a religious faith or political doctrine

Unless they sell the gospel for filthy lucre then no. Solicit means to sell something, and Mormons don't sell things door to door. Nor do the JW's.

Solicit is an interesting word.

But to answer what I think you're question means, Yes, if our missionaries have no other appointments, they go door-to-door looking for people who are interested.

We are not selling anything, so no, we are not soliciting. Our missionaries do go door-to-door to talk to people about our religion though. that is what you meant, right? But we do not sell anything.

Sorry to inform you,

The US Supreme Court has stated that JW's don't solicit.

As to the Mormons, I can't answer that.

The ones in my area do not seem to understand the words NO THANKS. They keep ringing and ringing the doorbell until someone answers and returning again and again (and repeatedly banging on the door and/or ringing the bell until someone answers) even though they have been asked not to come back and told I am NOT interested. When I called their elders, I was told they have the RIGHT to spread the WORD. (Don't get me wrong. I have friends who are Mormons but they are not like THESE obnoxious stubborn children who do not seem to respect boundaries.)
