The payments went into arrears for a number of years before a collection agency came after me for the money. Now my credit rating has been negatively affected and no one at the cell phone company or credit agency can provide me with any information as to how to fix this.

You fix it by paying it off then let the bad info age and make less of an impact each month.

If it has been 7 years since the 1st deliquency then get in touch with each of the 3 mjor agencies and ask it be remove ats 7 years is the limit for reporting.

If you were tricked by the credit card company, you need to get all documents proving you were tricked, as well as enlisting other students in your high school and your siblings as well and then go to the police. I'm not sure why you set up an account with Verizon and owe them over 2400$ but you need to figure out where it went wrong for verizon because you were the one that set up the account. I'd also recommend getting help from a lawyer. and... TELL YOUR PARENTS... they can help, if they can't most likely they will know someone who can help. Parents will be involved because you are a minor... so it is best they hear from you and your siblings rather than get a call from a credit card company saying you owe them an insane amount of money.

First, whose name was the cell phone account in, yours or hers? Was your credit card used just to pay the initial charges or was it set up for the regular monthly payments? Did you give her permission to use your credit card?

If the account is in your name, pay it. It's yours. You might go after the girlfriend in small claims to get reimbursed.

If the account is in her name, or you don't know if your name is on the accout, send the collector a certified letter, return receipt requested. Deny the debt and request they provide a copy of the signed contract and any other documentation that proves this is your debt.

Wait 30 days and if they fail to respond. Send them another certified letter indicating that since they failed to provide the documentation proving it's your debt, to cease and desist contacting you.

Send a dispute to the credit bureas, with a copy of the 1st letter to the collector, requesting the item be removed as it is not your debt and the collector failed to provided any proof of the debt.

You will want to keep copies of all this with your important financial documents. The collector will just sell off the debt to another agency and you'll have to start over again.

The moral of the story is that it is a very bad idea to loan out your credit card.

Unfortunately you will have to pay this to get it off of your account. Had a friend that had the same problem the cell phone company wouldn't help him at all and he ended up having to pay it.

She also ended up running up his credit card and he had to hire an attorney to write a letter to the credit agencies telling them that she stole the card and was not authorized to use it, after fighting them for quite a while they disregarded the charges, however, it still affects his credit. Everytime he applies for credit he has to show the company all the correspondence between him, his attorney and the credit agencies in order to get approved.

The only solution is to pay it off and once it's done get it removed from your credit.

Pay off the card. Then track her down and sue her in small claims court.

When your debt gets that far behind even catching up won't help.
I am sure you know better than to charge things then expect someone else to pay so you won't do that again.
