Oh good! Looks like it's Ms.! Thanks everyone!
I had no clue if she was married or ever was married.

Don't address it at all. Start with a Goodmorning, Goodevening...and when she signs her email back, you'll know how she wants to be reffered to.

When in doubt, use Ms. Unless the woman is over 70, than you can use Mrs as there is a good chance she is married and also a good chance she thinks Ms is poppycock. Ms didn't exist until sometime in the late 60s early 70s.

This is a complicated subject... Mrs. Can refer to a woman who is married, or divorced.(my friends divorced mom was a mrs) Miss is totally unmarried, and Ms. is a bit more complicated. Ms. is more formal, you don't know if they're married or not. Also, if a woman is divorced, or has a separate last name from her husband, Ms. can be used. Ms is also more impersonal. Ms. can also be used if someone doesn't want you to know they're widowed or divorced... hope this helps!

I would do Ms. - Mrs. is married, Miss is unmarried, and typically associated with younger women. Ms. would be the appropriate if you don't know for sure.

Use the Ms, for the reasons already stated here.

I agree with using Ms.

I have always been told (as stated above)

Miss--unmarried woman
Mrs.---married woman
Ms. ---if you are unsure

I have also heard of using Ms. if the woman is a widow since "technically" she is no longer married. But I do not know if that is accurate or not.

You should try Ms. if you're not sure or don't wanna be out of place! Good luck on that!

As much as I hate using it -- Ms. is correct when you don't know the marital status of a female.
