While I'm not Christian, I am of the opinion that magic is magic. I didn't read or watch the Harry Potter series, nor have I gone to Disney...although offered the chance.
I grew up following in my sisters' footsteps. She was an avid reader, & deeply interested in Greek & Roman mythology. So; I, too, became well-versed in the different gods & goddesses.
I have a strong supernatural bend & have encountered things that have convinced me of the reality of the spirit realm.
For this reason, although I am Jewish, I will not involve myself with Jewish mysticism, either. Call me narrow-minded, but I know what I believe when it comes to magic & the spirit realm. I do not force my opinion on others, but you asked.

I think you present a very good point for what you believe. I used to attend an Orthodox Christian Bible study, and they are very strict as to what they believe concerning the Bible. Two of the people who attended it were reading "Harry Potter" books "Just for fun". I am a Wiccan today. That was very hard for me to understand at the time! It doesn't conflict with my beliefs, but I was alittle worried for them, what they're real reaction would ever be if they found out how different all of this one's from their real beliefs. I thought they would be shocked. I know first hand they're are classes in wicca and witchcraft groups connected with the Harry Potter books. However, my own beliefs mostly tell me there isn't anything wrong with any nature religion. Because we are supposed to except everyone's beliefs and religions, whether we believe them or not. If we don't how can we coexist together. In Rome the Christian's were the only group that refused to do this. And Rome was brought down. Isn't it really up to each person. I think you can try to get the word out, but they're is no way to make others believe the same as you do. I know you are not doing that.

I don't believe this but I have many people I fellowship with who do. Their point is you can not grow up to be a cartoon character who practices witchcraft but you can go to school in the real world to become a witch. Much of the content of Harry Potter is practiced in real witchcraft. For example Nicolas flamel was a real alchemist. My personal belief is that it is just a fictional book if the kids keep that in mind and don't take it seriously then there is no real problem.

They present these things that seem real in the movies, because some of the things are real. When the anti-Christ comes with the Beast(ET's maybe) he will be revived from the dead and will do lying wonders(witchcraft) through the aid of the Beast.
I would let kids see this movie for what it is and make sure they have a balance of the knowledge of miracles(that happen alot but of course the media cannot touch the good news).

I've been kind of struggling with that one myself. Some of the magic in those movies is probably just as scary to little kids as the stuff in HP--I still remember taking my 3 year old niece to see Sleeping Beauty when it was in the theaters about 25 years ago, and that part where the witch turned into the dragon/beast and said something like, "Now you will deal with all the powers of hell" scared the crap out of her and me.
As for the idea of magic from a Christian standpoint, it probably does fall into the same category as HP, and maybe moreso, because it gives such a lighthearted, harmless quality (sometimes) to magic and occult stuff. I mean, who would think that a bumbling old lady singing "Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo" would be leading kids into something forbidden? It is something to think about; where do you draw the line?
Very good question.

As a Christian (and please note this is my personal opinion) I believe that this whole thing about Harry Potter has gotten out of control. I continuously hear people saying good and bad about Harry Potter but what it all boils down to is its fiction. Plane and simple fiction. Just like Disney and Looney Toons. Its all fiction. People that have problems with these movies are making huge deals about them and these movies are no different then other movies that touch on other issues and they should not make such a deal about these types of movies that are harmless.

I am a Christian and I like Harry Potter. C.S. Lewis' book also has witches and magic in it. Harry Potter also does portray good and evil, a lesson to be learned in sticking with good while evil chases you and hands you a silver platter.
Its a book! I like it and both my children have seen the movies, read the books and played on the websites.

Some of those Disney movies are innocent with no evil. The other magic in movies are portrayed to be evil. The witches do magic etc. Mary Poppins is an imaginative movie with innocent magic. Not evil.

As a christian I have no issues at all with my children seeing the Harry Potter's Movies or reading the books. We are there every openning night.
I have friends who feel differently, and I guess I understand their feelings. If a child is raised with christian values, this will have no effect on them.

The devil sure is sneaky like a SNAKE isn't he?? He mixes good fun stuff with a little bit of evil....just so if you thought of it...you would say..."oh, well, you know we don't believe this way"....but then you go on and take part in whatever the fun thing is anyway because you "don't want to upset the kids". I see that disney as well as tv and movies are becoming increasingly obsessed with the supernatural. It is like frogs in a pan of water. If you heat the water slowly you can boil them alive and they don't even realize it. They don't try to jump out because they get conditioned to the water warming. WE are like that....conditioned more and more to evil.....so that when the BIG deception comes....we will just accept that too.
