Check out the thread below over @ FSC.com To see what they are talkin about w/ this guys 91 model 1/2 ton ext cab.

I had this same problem w/ my now x 91 Silverado Z71. Where the A/C light flashed and it was just low on feron. Of course, it got to the point where I had to re-charge the system every yr. due a leak somewhere in the system. We never bother trying to locate the leak(thro, we did add the colored leak additive ea. time but, never seen anything.). Just b-cuz we felt it was simpler and/or cheaper just to re-charge(service) it yearly(down here in Southern GA).

Good luck!

The control unit in the dash has a problem with the low pressure alert but it is a problem in most 91-93 models. The solution is to take your control unit out of the dash and take out the #1 slot wire which is the dark green wire. Do not cut but pull the whole connecter from that one wire out with pliers or something that will use force. Tape it well so it will not short. Put it all back in the dash and you are good to go. You will still have your low pressure switch in the drier to stop the compressor clutch from engaging when low on Freon but you will eliminate the fault in the control unit.

It has stored a code and the light is flashing to tell you that it has diagnosed a problem. Most times you have a leak in the refrigerant and the sensor has detected that. It then locks out power to the compressor so no damage occurs. Find the leak and repair. Then get the system evacuated and charged. You might have to then get the code cleared.
