Hi I have a wisdom tooth that basically completely broke out on me while I was eating corn. I think that I have a nerve ending just dangling from where the tooth used to be. Does anyone have any idea how much this would cost to take care of and if it can get infected? How much is taking out wisdom teeth in general? Thanks

Hi! I've been in dentistry for ober 20 years and that is not a nerve ending, it is a piece of tissue. The roots must be removed or you could get a serious infection. The cost varies from 150 to 350. But you must get this done, a serious infection can go to your heart and other organs. This is not worth it. Worse case, go to ER and get on call dentist to remove it. ALSO you should get on antibiotics now. So this you must do first thing as you can. In the meantime tinse with very salty warm water at least 3 times before bed and at bedtime. This is draw out infection and clean area. Continue this until you see dentist. Good luck! M

the price to have your wisdom tooth extracted will depend on whether or not it will be a surgical extraction. if it is a case of simply pulling the tooth out, it will probably only be a couple hundred bucks, otherwise it will be a lot more.
You should definitely get your tooth checked ASAP because it could get infected, and you definitely do not want that to happen. If it does get infected, you will need to go on antibiotics, and possibly wait for the infection to clear up before they will remove the tooth. If the nerves are exposed, your tooth will be extremely sensitive.

I had the same thing. I just had my molar removed yesterday and they left the wisdom tooth , we figure it'll slide into place. For the pain, if you can't get into a dentist, I honestly suggest finding a local pill popper. They have the stuff to get you through the weekend. Brush that food out though, and apply some store brand oragel, that suff is somehow more effective than the name brands. Ibproufen will help a bit with inflamation and swelling and pain. Ice it. Find a popper and take it easy. Don't talk too much, it'll throb even worse.

benson,

I think i can share on the part on the cost of surgery.
I recently had wisdom tooth surgery. 3 teeth by surgery and 1 by extraction. It cost about USD2011, in my area.

1 wisdom tooth by surgery would cost (in the area where I live) at least about USD330.

I did mine under general anesthesia.

Anyway, you do not have to take out all of your wisdom tooth. just take the one that's giving you problem.

That's all. Hope it helps a bit.

Benson,
This cost varies on where yu live and whom you see.
With a piece of tissue exposed it will have to be extracted.
You should have anti-biotics prior to this. See a dentist and start taking this.
