Perhaps a siberian Husky, they come in medium to large size. (mine is over 35kg) They are free spirited personalities and if you get an Alpha (like I've got) they are not your robot dog that does anything you want them to and they are not motivated by food. They are strong and love to run and walk and explore, you can't let them off the leash, cause they won't come back until they are ready. You can get harness and scooter and hook them up and they'll take you for a ride around the park, that's their job to pull things like sleighs but if there is no snow, the scooter does the job. They would be great as a therapy dog, their natures are loyal, vocal, very demonstrative of affection. I must say they are not big on the barking,( although mine does and it is deep and resonating )but they have a language that you get to understand and they communicate to you all the time. They are territorial of the properties they live at. They are hunters and any cats, rats, possums, birds, mice enter at own risk. Being so wolflike in appearance, it is a great deterant to humans. They do not like fighting between family members and will come between you. Very sensetive to moods. They are clean, well mannered, and you can take them anywhere. They do moult and require brushing, they also need alot of water, especially after walks or runs or if they have been working with a scooter, they cool their feet by putting them in a bucket. They adapt to all kinds of climate. I live in Aust. and our temps vary from freezing to over 100F. They are a handsome breed with various coat and eye colors.
They are not big eaters, they often stash surplus food. I never set out to own a husky, but I got mine free from the paper, and I didn't know what I was getting but I can assure you he is a magical dog, just like his name "Hex" and everybody loves him. Both males and females are just gorgeous. Anyway this was my answer to your question, good luck in whichever breed you choose.

I own a Belgian malinois. It's kinda like a German Shepard, but just a little smaller. They are used for police work. So drugs, protection, and stuff like that. They can make good therapy dogs.. just depends on the dogs temperament.
The malinois is a quick learner, they are egar to please. They are very HIGH ENERGY. So if you jog everyday, then that would be great. Mine is super protective of me and my son. She barks alot, if someone is at the door, but once i tell her OK, she will go lay down.
Once you get a malinois, (prounced Mal-in-wah) you will be hooked on the breed. They are easy to groom, altho they do shed a bit twice a year.

ok I have the perfect breed for you.
A black labrador retriever
you know why?? I have one, he barks whenever he hears the doorbell ring, he is very strong and loves to play, it takes hard work to tire him out and he will protect me no matter what. once a pitbulll charged after me out of his owners grasp when I was walking my black lab Rex, What did Rex do? He ran in front of the pitbull and barked and stayed in front of it not letting him pass and go near me.. He stayed in front of the pit bull and barked and waited until the owner caught hold of his dog.. and plus hes a good listener, he plays dead, rolls over, sits, high fives, gives kisses and hugs, shakes, lays down and stays on your command
A black lab is the perfect dog for you
Hope this helps

a yellow labrador would be an ideal companion and very loyal but if you're looking for a "bully" type you may consider an english bull terrier as they are a wonderful dog also.
I had a "bully" for years and although she was a smaller one she was very loyal and stood her ground very well and loved to run - especially after horses!! Hope this help.

You are pretty specific, but there are quite a few breeds that fit this criteria. Try the breed selector on Animal Planet's website. It will match you with a bunch of breeds that will suit your lifestyle and you can decide from there.

you should adopt a pitt bull, or an American staffie. they need good trainers, and educators and you sound like you are willing to do that! good for you! please adopt one also, so you can educate people about pound puppies and how adopting is the best thing to do. Plus you will be saving there life!
