Yes, there HAVE been refinements to make your time more Hedonistic, your lives more leisurely, such as this computer, Plasma TV, MP-3s, fast Japanese motorcycles, "safer" autos; the list is seemingly endless.

Yet, I can & do recall a time when life WAS much more pleasurable, simpler, even safer. When there was much LESS Murder, Rapine, and Rampage; there were LESS frivolous "Laws", LESS Police, LESS burglar alarms. A time when the worst "Terrorist" event was a deluded Cuban hi-jacking a plane "home" to Cuba! A time where there was much more emphasis on "service"; a person could buy a gallon of gas & still get their tires & oil checked, & windshield cleaned. A time when "411" calls were FREE & Operators were friendly, helpful, & HUMAN. A time when one could STILL be proud of their President, when most people were still unfamiliar with the words "Incompetent" & "Buffoon".

MY QUESTION STANDS: Are we all now just simple-mindless SHEEPLE distracted by Technology?

We all can think back just five or more years and clearly see how the world has advanced from bad to worst. We can see all the things that the Bible has foretold coming true.

The Bible describes events and conditions that mark this significant time period.

"Nations will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom"

"There will be food shortages...in one place after another"
Matt. 24:7

"There will be great earthquakes"

"In one place after another pestilences"
Luke 21:11

'Increased lawlessness accompanied by a cooling off of love on the part of the greater number'
Matt. 24:11,12

Man has tried to govern themselves for centuries, with promises that are never realized. again the Bible reins true when it says

I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step." Jeremiah 10:23

Technology isn't causing the terrorism we are experiencing today, Religion is. The religious zealots are using technology to do harm, not the other way around.

The theory that things were much better in the past is not true. The big difference between now and then is our access to information. In the times you are refering to, we didn't have access to 24 hour news. When bad things happened, the news rarely made it past the local newspapers, unless it was truly catastrophic. Now we know about more bad things happening because of the net and television, but that doesn't mean bad things have increased.

Technology is a distraction when used for entertainment, but also a great help when used for medicine and study. Back in the day, a fever could kill a majority of a town or at times a country, now they don't. Thanks to technology.

Human interaction is still the same now, accept we also have the ability to communicate to a greater amount of people using technology.

A few years back I couldn't speak with my Grandparents in Aus because the phone system was not very good, letters were delivered every 6 weeks. Now I can get onlinel, fire up my webcam and interact with them live over the computer. That is great.

Its all about your attitude, some people look for the negative, some the positive.

I bet that if you took a poll of the answers to this question, a far majority of the negative responses stating that the world is headed for the end or getting worse everyday, would come from religious people.

Perhaps humans have become distracted by technology and the rampant consumerism. Yes, there was a time when people actually cared about each other more and companies cared about winning loyalty from customers and workers. Maybe the life you remember was simpler and more pleasurable. Yes, there are problems now and yes, there were even problems in the past as well. Sometimes the good old days were not that good after all. Conduct some historical research and see what happens to the 1950s for instance.

The answers you got were a bit harsh, but then your question was extremely naive.

The quality of your life has a lot more to do with what you make of it, than your surroundings or the people and things in them. This holds true no matter what era you live in. If we take your reasoning to it's conclusion, then primitive hunter-gatherers should have had the best world, so why was average life expectancy around 40 back them.

Modern living has it's pitfalls, but it's orders of magnitude better than what came before it. With each new century, life becomes a bit better for the typical person than the century before. Are there exceptions to the rule? Always, but on average, newer is better.

Possibly, but I wouldn't *really* know how to quantify it. I think I personally enjoy life more now than I would have been able to 100 years ago (I have more access to information, better possesions and travel is easier and cheaper for starters, not to mention better healthcare more money etc) but I wouldn't know how happy I'd be 100 years ago if i didn't know about what i didn't have. There is no way to prove it conclusively, if I had lived 100 years ago, I'd be over 100 now and have an entirely different experience of the present day than if I was a 25 year old.

This world gets worse as time goes by. Overpopulation is more of a problem than technological advances. Technology has its advantages, however, they are usually accompanied by disadvantages. I too would like to have lived a hundred years ago, but, on the other hand, antibiotics and air conditioning alone make me rethink this thought. I guess I we are all a little spoiled. People who lived a hundred years ago seem tougher in general than most people today. I think they may have been happier also.

My question to you: are currently connected to the Internet via a silver spoon and a row of buttons? Or are you just that powerful of psychic to post this without the benefits of technology?
It is not just the result of technology, but of the horrifying information that such technology allows the public to know with little to no effort, of the population boom and consequent loss of purpose that the protections of technology have brought upon us. It is not an evil in of itself, it is simply not the bastion of utter peace and prosperity that we assume it to be.

I don't think we're sheeple, but we are definitely more focused on ourselves and our wants and our needs.

But I'm also seeing one positive thing. There is a lot more emphasis on voluteering and helping other people than a few years ago.

But, I also liked the time before we had only 3 channels on TV and you had to find your own entertainment. Back in those days, you learned to face defeat. Back in those days, only the scientists wearing lab coats ran computers!!!

We have Not & Never will "Advance" as a "Civilization" without Christ being at the "Center" of our Lives. Many Studies have shown that the "Farther Away" U get from the "Original" the Less "Faithful" the "Reproduction" is, whether we talk "Living Things" or "Mans Inanimate Productions". Christ is the "Equalizer" leaving Us the "Holy Spirit" as our "Standard" which is "Never Changing". John

When exactly were these wonderful Good Old Days?

I remember a time when Americans simply weren't exposed to all the horrible things that happened in the world. Is that the time you're talking about?
