They use grape juice and crackers for communion?!? Am i missing something here, or shouldn't they be using real wine and bread like in the Bible, since they think God's such a stickler for details? This is one of the reasons I'm not a Christian... too many damn nitpicking rules, and if you get one little detail wrong, you still go to Hell...

Your Mom and Dad have raised you in the same d--ned nitpicking rules church I was raised in. THAT IS NOT GOD AND I NEARLY FORSOOK GOD ALTOGETHER.
I always thought that if this is God, I will take my chances. I tried every kind of "spiritual walk" I could to stay away from churches because of such "crap" and thought it was just me who hated that insane mess. I KNEW what they talked was always "doing it like they did in the New Testament" but honey, there was NO HEALINGS, NO LOVE, NO POWER, NO Holy Spirit, or anything else I read about in the New Testament. They didn't care if you threw the Old Testament away..., go figure. My life was a mess and so was my parents' lives. A lot of male domination and trying to tell us that men have authority over women in general. Crazy.
What keeps you out of hell ( I know now) is the blood of Jesus. Asking Jesus to BE your LORD and Savior and allowing that to happen, IS becoming a Christian. They just want everybody "wet"! Forgive their ignorance. After I was a granmother, John Hagee Ministries cast the "cult spirit" off me and dedicated me to Jesus! It got rid of the "guilt" I felt from their teachings.
Go to any large church that accepts you in casual clothes, who don't demand that you speak certain words, call yourselves certain and particular names and who don't demand you criticize all other believers!
Grape Juice is fine, but when it is a 'doctrinal issue" it is a problem!
You DON'T go to hell over some stupid wrong detail. Hell is for those who do NOT know Jesus as Lord and Savior and who don't walk in LOVE toward God or their fellowman! God came to earth as Jesus to SAVE THE WORLD, not to criticize it and browbeat a FEW into some little narrowminded group! Study about mercy and grace and KNOW it is about the love of GOD.
Sing with a guitar, a piano or whatever you desire. God LOVES music and proved it in the old Covenant where David made a tabernacle where singers and MUSICIANS sung and played 24 hrs. a day!
God bless you and lead you to HIM.., not to a denomination that wants to control you.
Find a church that you feel happy in and you believe LOVE THE LORD AND YOU!
God is real, church is wonderful and the Holy Spirit is the power in the engine of life!

Classical music may not survive much beyond the next generation ... particularly not when the people who espouse its supposed superiority are rude and condescending. Why would anyone want to be like that? Or like anything that someone like that likes? But to answer the original poster, what we call classical music typically conforms to certain requirements that define types of music. For example, a symphony, a concerto, an opera, and other classical pieces have certain structural requirements ... though these vary somewhat depending on the time period. I don't know the piece you describe, but I'll venture a guess from other descriptions here that it is simply a song that may feature certain instrumentation that is classical sounding. If it is still recorded and loved in 100 years, it will still be just a song that is classical sounding. Like ragtime music has been enjoyed for nearly 100 years, but it is not classical and won't become classical. It will just become older.

Say what? Brother, I am a part of the body of Christ, in a full-gospel Pentecostal church. We have two guitarists, two keyboardists, and a saxophonist. Our music is anointed by the Holy Ghost, and that alone can draw one to the altar, or cause some folks to be filled with the Holy Ghost. Lives are changed, people are healed, and your parents say that this is a bad thing? I think not, my friend. God moves where and when He wills. You need to listen to your parents less, and study your Bible more. Get involved in a church where the spirit of God is alive and working. Then go teach your parents something. The only rules that you have to follow are those laid out by Christ. Pay no heed to the doctrines of self-righteous people.

Who told you that's the way of things? I've never been in a church and heard if there's a band playing you're going to hell. It's all oregon music? My old BAPTIST church used to have a rock band play on Wednesday nights...

Anyways, you know, churches can have an extremely negative image for Christianity, and it's not really fair. I haven't been to church in about 5 years, yet I consider myself very spiritual and close to God. I have my own bible study, and I have no MAN trying to tell me what to think and what the Bible means, I figure it out myself.

You should give it a shot.

Christians often disagree about how services should be run. Many groups organize their services in the way that they feel is most pleasing to God, or best helps them feel God's presence and understand His will.

Very few go to the extreme of saying that anyone that runs their services differently is "going to hell".

As to grape juice and crackers, well, a learned Christian once pointed out to me that Jesus said "whenever you eat or drink", so even cookies and milk would be valid, provided that you took it in the spirit which Jesus offered it.

My advice to you is to honor your parents by not arguing with them over the details. If you're still living with them, then try to understand the reasons for their beliefs. Every denomination has something that it can teach. Eventually, you will have to decide for yourself what you believe.

If you're out on your own, then still, honor them by refraining from arguing with them about religion. You might want to learn what other Christians believe before simply dismissing the whole lot of us. My favorite book for explaining the basics of the Christian faith is "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis.

In closing, I would simply repeat what Jesus told us were the most important commandments. They have nothing to do with music, or crackers.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" and "Love your neighbor as yourself".

It is so sad how your parents are misrepresenting what being a true Christian is. I myself am a genuine spirit-filled believer and I know that instrumental music is not wrong.
Check out Psalm 150:3-6
Some people are very legalistic, going by man made rules rather then the bible. If you really want to know what is right from wrong read the bible. Remember also that Jesus died for our sins, and it also says that all you really need to do is love Jesus with all your heart, mind and soul, and love others as yourself(Matt 22:37-40). That sums it all up. If you love your God you will not have any idols before him and you will not hurt him by going against the commandments. If you love others you would not want to hurt them by killing, stealing, or hurting them in any way shape or form.
As for me believing in Jesus is not just a set of rules, it is loving Jesus with all I am and loving others as myself. It is because of my love for God that prevents me from doing anything that He does not want me to do. It is also those boundaries that He gives that protect us from hurting ourselves and others.

There is no biblical basis for instrumental music being wrong. So that can be a church preference, but is far from a command of God.

The point of communion is to remember what Jesus did; you can use whatever works for that.

You don't go to hell if you get "one detail wrong." LOL :-)

yea that;s about right.and every one of the churches will tell you that you have to come to their church because that;s the only way to heaven.jesus drank wine and he eat bread.so i guess if you;re going to remember that day then you should follow the same example as christ did.that;s the trouble with going to some church.their all alike.either believe what i say is truth or you;re going to hell.and i forgot how much money did you put in the offering plate.hahaha.they won;t get any of my money.

*eye roll*shakes head*...... These aren't the rules of God. God made music... He loves music, he tells us to worship Him in music, everything. We can still listen to instrumental jazz, that's not a sin.... your mom and pop are giving you a very very bad signal which is why many leave the church... Ugh. Tell them to read the Bible.

Tell mom and pop that the guitar and drums came along way before the pipe organ.
