The other night my roommate's cat went missing. He is usually home at least four times a day to eat. He relies on us to feed him. I am wondering if male cats still feel the need to runaway and chase females even if they are neutered. Or maybe he would run away for some other reason. No one wants to believe he is dead yet. Just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible for him to be out there wandering around like un-neutered cats do....

He could have gotten lost and now can't find he's way home. If a cat gets scared and runs off sometimes when they stop they have run to an area unfamiliar to them and don't know in which direction to go. Leave it's favourite food outside and wait. Also you could alert all the neighbours to keep an eye out and also ask them to check all garages and garden sheds. Sometimes someone will leave a door open, the cat goes in and then the door gets closed without that person knowing the cat has gone in. After this if the cat still hasn't returned put up posters in the area, shopping centres and schools as kids are the most likely to find lost pets as they play outside. I would say he is not chasing females but just lost. Don't give up hope as I have heard many stories about cats being found even months later.

A well cared for neutered cat would have little if any incentive to truly run away. However he might have MANY reasons to stay out overnight. I once had one who despite being neutered would spend two or three nights away from home during the summer. He just loved the warm weather! When he was ready he would come home, eat, sleep it off and then repeat cycle. This went on until the temperature started to drop. If possible, put a collar on him with an ID tag. That way if he does get lost people will be able to help you get him back home.

Well sure. They get lost or jump in a car with an open window and can't find their way home. I recently lost my cat. Luckily he's got a microchip and was found. Very, very far from home in a busy industrial part of town. Don't know how he got there and he wasn't worn out and paws were ok. So I bet he found a ride. He is neutered but just wandered off. Also someone could have taken the cat in and he doesn't have an option to find it's way home. Good luck on finding the cat.

There might have been countless motives. i could no longer count variety the situations my cats did this, lots of them spayed/neutered besides. at the beginning, are you optimistic he replaced into neutered? it is uncommon, yet sometimes a cat could be born with a double set of testes. i've got seen it earlier in one in each of my cats. He replaced into neutered, then six weeks later had to be neutered returned while the different set began to instruct. yet one greater reason: cats via nature are ramblers. My grandma has various tomcats, all neutered, all outdoors. the only time you ever see them is while that's time for them to be fed. dogs won't wander as lots after being mounted, yet cats, mounted or no longer, like to ramble. i'm quite optimistic he will take place, so do no longer subject too lots. i wish you locate your cat. i would be praying for you, and God bless :)

Cats don't run away if they are treated well. Neutered cats don't chase females anymore.
Cats do hang out somewhere for 2-3 days then stroll nonchalantly in the door just as you are getting really frantic. Get the little guy a microchip.

Only thing neutering stops is production of sperm, two of my neutered males still had sex with our females, and they were cut at like 8-9 months of age, didn't slow them down a bit! :)

My neutered boy still insists on going out hunting (or whatever) at night. We don't really know what he does, but he likes to go out. I always make sure he has his collar and name tag, and he always comes back. It's not the girls he's after I'm sure, he just likes adventure.

He is probably taking a vacation. He may or may not decide to ever return home. Cats are like that. Very fickle creatures. They own you, not vice versa.
