Check with your tax preparer. Else

Normally, for most of the requirements your purpose is served if you ask IRS for Transcripts instead of your tax return. You can order a transcript by calling 1-800-829-1040, or using Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return. There is no fee for a transcript. Transcript will provide you the needed information. You should receive the transcripts within 10 days.

In case you want copy of your tax returns (not the transcripts) then use Form 4506 is Request for Copy of Tax Return. You will get copy of tax return file by you along with all the attachments (like W2, 1099..). For each return the charges are $39 and IRS takes about 60 days to complete your request. In the Form 4506 you can also authorize a third party to receive the return.

The tax preparer that did your taxes the previous year should have a copy ... unless it was you who prepared the return. If this is the case I suggest you hit the links I provided below.

Basically, the IRS can provide you with a copy of your 2006 tax return for the 2007-2008 Financial Aid period. the process takes about 60 days and costs about $40.

Or if you just need the information that is in your tax return, you can obtain a transcript of your tax return. It takes about 2 weeks and is free. The transcript should be all you need if you just have to fill in some information for Financial Aid.

However, if the institution pulls your account for verification processing, you'll need an actual copy.

Hope this help and good luck.

You can contact IRS at 800-829-1040 and they will mail or fax you a return transcript that your financial aid office will be satisfied with. Free.

Call the IRS and ask for a transcript - that will be acceptable for financial aid and won't cost anything. And they can usually fax it - if not, won't take long to get.
