I'm not convinced that, in the long run, lying DOES save someone's feelings. I've been trying to come up with a scenario where I might be tempted to lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings but every one has the potential to hurt the person more in the future (especially if the lie is discovered which they so often are!). If a friend asks if I think she she's getting fat, would lying to her and saying, "no" really spare her feelings? Wouldn't she know I was lying (if she really was getting fat) and thus be less inclined to believe me when I told her something positive about herself that actually WAS true! Would my desire to spare her feelings help her to avoid being hurt by other people she might meet?
I believe it is possible to speak the truth in love in every situation...I won't claim I'm perfect at doing that and it can be tempting just to lie rather than to figure out how to tell the truth without hurting the other person! ...but yes, when I chose to lie, I do believe that I have sinned no matter what the motivation...the ends do not justify the means!

I think telling a harsh truth without regards to a person's feeling or as to whether it is actually constructive or not in mentioning it is a worse sin than a white lie.

A lie is a lie, it is always better to tell the truth, cuz the truth is what sets u free, see when that person finds out that they have been lied to then, they will be hurt even more, cuz u not only didn't tell them, but u deliberately lied to them, would that not make u mad.

Dear queenofyack,
Yes, lying is a sin. I will tell the truth regardless of the person's feelings.
**Note-even telling a partial truth is a lie.

The answer depends on the magnitude of the lie and the consequences for others, that follow it. You need to weigh those matters up.... usually it takes a fraction of a second to decide.. but if you are a thoughtless fibber, then you aren't much of a friend at all.
I try not to hurt peoples feelings, but some people just can't get out of the way!
As for sin.. who cares?

No, God specifically made bearing false witness Against your neighbor a sin and did not make lying a sin. You can look up the commandment.
This does not mean it is okay to lie, God hates liars:
Proverbs 6:
16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
But, God knows that sometimes we are going to lie:
"Honey does this make me look fat?"
God does not like it when we lie, but, God only made bearing false witness against our neighbor a sin.

It depends who you are talking to you.
If it's a very close friend I'd tell the truth. And I would tell the truth to the parents. With parents the truth will ALWAYS come out, always. If they hear it from somebody else and not you, it will make you look very stupid in front of them. Same is with friends. It really depends.

To lie is a sin.
I would rather tell the truth and be known as someone who is honest in all things with all people.
The OTHER choice (you fail to present) is that you can just keep quiet if you feel that your truthfulness will hurt someone's feelings. You DON'T have to be hurtful. You CAN be quiet.

i might extremely tell the reality. the reality hurts, yet that's actuality. in case you lie, your going to ought to at last conceal up that lie and then conceal up the two lies you lied approximately, and then it purely turns right into a on no account ending cycle...
