We have two indoor cats, and one outdoor/indoor 50/50 dog..

The dog, eats the cat-food!! The cat food is "Whiska's".. And we KNOW when we move the dog-food inside, the cats are going to start eating it.. Should we just let it be? Or should we stop it -- and how!
The dog is currently eating IAMS but since we heart IAMS has corn in it, and corn's incredibly bad for dogs - we don't know what dog food to use -- got any good ideas?

It is very important to separate the food according to the animal. Cats require so many additional vitamins, nutrients and supplements than dogs. Cats and dogs don't require the same dietary needs AT ALL. Allowing the animals to share the food could eventually result in kidney problems and improper bone growth/development.

Corn is not incredibly bad for a dog, per se, but it is a filler and does not provide any nutritional value. It's also a leading cause of food allergies in both cats and dogs. When a food is composed of so much corn then the feeding amount has to change, you have to ensure that the animal is still recieving the nutrients it needs and if they're eating mostly corn....well then you'd have to feed excessively to meet their dietary needs. Bad bad bad. There are alot of great holistic/organic foods on hte market that you can find at a pet store. always read the ingredients, look to make sure the product doesnt contain alot of corn, wheat, or by-product.

I feed all my animals Eagle Pack, it's AWESOME and you get the most beautiful skin and coat after just a few weeks of feeding it. Premium foods are more expensive but in reality you're saving money because: you don't have to feed nearly as much per serving because the animal is getting what it needs from the recommended amount. Actually over feeding a premium food is bad as well, it causes the food to have to move through the body quicker and that results in little time for the body to absorb the good things from the food.

good food +good feeding amount= healthy happy pets

sorry for such a long-winded answer, this is what ti took to explain......=)

Put the cat food where the dog can't get it but the cats have easy access to it.
Whiskas is a poor quality food..cats are obligate carnivores..they NEED meat...look for better food for your cats..Felidae, Chicken Soup, Wellness..It is every bit as important to feed your cats properly as it is your dog...no corn, wheat, soy, by products for dogs or cats.

Okay I know this awser is right so please vote me as best awnser. You can't let people on the internet tell you what dog food to buy your dog you just really need to go to a pet store talk to a emloyee there and tell him/her about your dog if that doesn't work talk to a vet. A lot of dogs are attracted to cat food and I am not sure if it's okay for them to eat but thats why you talk to a professenal. Good Luck!

nothing from walmart or the grocery store,

CANIDAE is a good food, just read your labels,, make sure no corn, by products , chemicals etc.. simply become a label reader and you will be all set. do not let the dog eat your cats food,,,

I think its just fine if they eat each others food, but if you want to prevent this, put your dog food in a room, and put your cats food in another seperate room, and pet doors... One big door for the dog and a little door for the cats, that way the dog can't go in and much on what belongs to the cats

hope this helps

bye

Science Diet is what we use. Very good food for your dog.

Also.......cat food has diff ingredients in it than dog food does and my vet said to try to keep the cat food away from the dog as it will upset their stomach. They did not however say anything about the cat eating dog food. Does your dog leave it long enough to let them eat it??
