If you have 2 years of ROTC, then you go into the military with one stripe already. That means mo' money! What you're looking for in the USMC, you can find in the army. I was army. I made rank faster, earned my paratrooper wings, and SGT in 31 months. If you hadn't already signed up for the marines, look into the army's ranger option. Since all green berets and rangers are paratroopers, you get sent to jump school first. The dress uniform? Army guys in an airborne unit don't wear those dress shoes that everybody else wears. They wear their pants tucked in combat boots instead. Looks sharp. Better than the marine dress blues. Check out the 82nd Airborne Division. or the Green Beret pages.

Most every city (and big town) has a Army National Guard unit, and each one of those has a FAMILY READINESS GROUP. Even if yo are not family, you can join the group. The purpose of the group is to support the soldiers and their families, especially during deployments. This might be a great way for you to learn more about military life. Contact your local National Guard Armory and ask for the contact person in the Family Readiness Group. Tell him/her you want to volunteer, they will undoubtedly welcome you. Good luck.

Talk to a recruiter- if your at least 17 and a junior you can enter the DEP (delayed entry program) and start getting knowledge of the branch of your choice for a year before you ship to basic training. You also get to have all your paperwork done and ready. but like myself and the person above said, talk to your recruiter- the most accurate source of knowledge in this matter.
