My earlobes hurt the worst. I have my tongue, navel, and earlobes, and the navel was easy, the tongue was easier, it didn't hurt at all, the only time it really hurts is when it's healing, but popping 4 midol in the morning and 4 at night did the trick and it's been a very pleasant experience.

Well, since ear lobe piercing is usually done with a gun, instantly inserting the earring, it's a little longer process. Also the experience is different for everyone accounting the gauge of the jewelry, the individuals pain threshold, the skill of the piercer and the location on the tongue.
I personally have never had a naval piercing, but I have had two tongue piercings. They hurt less than what I thought they would. I had an audience with both, but I seemed that more excited I was, the less the pain (adrenaline is awesome!). I knew what to expect with the second, so it was a little more painful, as the nerves weren't acting up, plus the procedure was different.
Coming from someone who had theirs done by a first-timer in a parking lot, I strongly encourage you do A) Do much research, about the piercing and the piercer B) Visit the studio before your planned appointment C) Get the best piercer you can, even if it will cost more. It's much better to get someone who knows what they are doing. My first piercing ended up crooked (which is why I got the second, I ended up w/the viper (two beside each other) style).
While it was neat while it lasted, I definitely would do it different this time. The tongue is a muscle and is way different than piercing cartridge.
It was seven years ago, but my most vivid memory was it felt warm, more than painful. I even ripped my first accidentally, so it was larger than the first.

I've had my tongue pierced twice (the second time was obviously through scar tissue), and at one point I stretched it from a 12 gauge (about the average sized barbell that you'll see) to a ridiculous 6 gauge. That said, while it wasn't the most painful piercing I've received, it hurts. It hurts when you get it pierced, then it doesn't so much for about 1/2 an hour, then every time you try to eat or talk it hurts again for about 2-3 days. After that, it's old hat and you'll think it's the coolest thing you've ever done, trust me. ;) I had a ton of fun with it, and it heals quickly when you're over it (or when you accidentally lose it, like I did). It costs anywhere from $40-$80 depending on your part of town (and where that town may be). Things to look out for: bad piercers (infection, hitting a nerve), chipped teeth (metal barbells can do that, especially with a wicked oral fixation), and the ball unscrewing itself and falling off (you either swallow it or lose the barbell). If you're under 25, don't have a job that cares about your tongue, you have the money, and have a good idea of your pain thresh hold, I would go for it. Remember to be very vigilant about your oral hygiene (no alcohol-based mouthwash, trust me)!

I personally thought the pinching of the lobe piercing (due to the gun) was really irritating. But pain wise you can feel more during the tongue piercing. Its not that bad though and it only lasts for a couple seconds. The healing process is what really sucks. Its not painful, but oh so annoying! Just think about the awesome tongue ring you'll have when its all good and done ;)

With a tongue piercing, there are a few uncomfortable parts. First is having the needle in your tongue while you're drooling and waiting for the piercer to put the jewellery in. The other uncomfortable part is the insane swelling for 2-3 days after. Don't talk too much, don't eat things that are hot or spicy.
Other than that, it doesn't hurt much at all.

in my opinion out of all those piercing my navel hurt the most. i have no idea why but it did, when i had my tongue pierced it did'nt hurt at all only thing that got to me was the fact i could see her piercing it. it only took 3 days for the swelling to go down and my tongue to be fine, the only difficulty is getting used to having a bar in your mouth after that its like its not even there.
i would do it all over again and would reassure people who are scared off the pain

I've never had the navel peircing, and ear lobe at leat the lower part of the ear wasn't anything terrible. But I've got my tongue peirced. Its not bad at all. The initial peircing is a real quick prick and its over. Its the 3 days after that that are rough. Your tongue swells putting pressure against the balls and its just sore. Plus you don't realize this but you use your tongue to sweep your mouth when you eat and at first its really challenging to eat anything. You have to talk right too because you CAN develope a speech impediment although I don't think thats likely.
All and all the experience of it is not bad, and definately not bad enough to keep yourself from getting it done. I love mine, I've had it for 6 years now and couldn't imagine ever taking it out.

for me it was like the navel piercing. i just knew it was goin to hurt sooooo bad and it didnt. it was actually les awkward because the belly ring they used a curved needle and had to work at an angle (he had me laying down) and the tongue was just a straight shot through. hardest part was rinsing with listerine for a full 30+ seconds and not drooling he held my tongue out. haha

Too be honest I didn't think it hurt at all when getting it pierced, but it can take a while to heal so if you get it done stay away from acidic foods like tomato and oranges cos they can make healing time longer, well it did for me anyway....
