I have been playing soccer for a while now, and it seems like recently (past 1-2 years) when I run/sprint for awhile, I get major charlie horses. Why does this happen and what can I do to make them stop and not happen again? One happened today at school tryouts and I don't want it to happen tomorrow so is it possible to fix it overnight? Lots of people say its because I need to get more potassium by eating bananas, but I wanted to hear other peopls opinions. Thanks!

You need a lot more potassium and some more salt in your diet. Salt will hold the water in your body and you won't have any more cramps. When you sweat, you lose potassium and water thru perspiration and your muscles cramp up without water (lubrication). So eat more bananas (or take potassium in caplet form) and eat a little more salt to keep the water in your body. Gatorade also helps to keep those minerals, that you lose through exercise, in your body. So drink lots of Gatorade, water and a little more salt and you should be fine.
