They're complacent with the advent of the TV. Too many people are fine with watching Survivor and American Idol. If you killed TV, I guarantee the mutiny flag would raise and people would revolt. Until people become unhappy with the status quo, they'll go along with whatever the elected officials say.

It's also fashionable to be "metro" these days. The time for men to be real men is over. Boys play with dolls instead of bb guns. Kids are given suspensions for cap guns in schools and playing "cowboys and indians" is considered a hate crime or is considered to be promoting gun violence, so little kids are suspended because teachers and principals are lame.

Know why the country is going down the tubes? Because people are more concerned about being sued than by smacking a little bastard who deserves it. We're held hostage by the lowest elements.

I could keep going, but I'm already disgusted and my pizza needs picking up.

Great question, not asked often enough. I grew up running around in the woods hunting and trapping and I fished and backpacked my way through my early 20s. Then I became a dad and had to be "responsible" in a society where "responsible" means you have a job, save your money, pay your bills. Almost everybody I know has bought into the idea that you have to have a good job and own a home and maybe if you're lucky you might be able to retire with enough health to do the things you really want to - like living out in the woods.
Since having a "good job" means you live close to your work then you also need to live in a city or suburb, and hard core settlers and cul-de-sacs don't mix. So we have a whole generation of men who can feel they are living lives of quiet desperation, dreaming of living like real men while chained to a mortgage and an SUV and shuttling kids around to soccer games. I have yet to figure out the solution, but I do love my wife and my kids and so I figure my lifestyle needs to be more about them and less about me.
For me, softness is not always an issue of lifestyle but also an issue of character. Is the modern day "hard core settler" who ran from his responsibilities as a husband and father to go live off the land REALLY more of a man than the suburban weekend warrior who provides for his family and leads them spiritually? I don't think so. I do know that God has a role for men and that he wants us to be real men, not a bunch of metro-sexual pansies. Read the Gospels and check out the way Jesus lived and you will see what a "real man" is.

Technology has passed or soon will pass our ability to understand it. A 4th grader can use the Internet and surf through 200 T.V. channels while using his gps cell phone to order takeout food.

The trouble is that same person has no idea how the phone works or how to build the computer. The individual knowledge is gone. Without a system in place to provide support, our new "technologies" are worthless.

Even a worker at the Motorola plant can't fix the cell phone for ya. He works on the part of the line that installs the face plate. He has no knowledge of how the antenna even works.

Very few people truly "understand" any technology. Even doctors, engineers, etc. have become so specialized you may have to ask 3 or 4 different ones before you get a real answer.

Hunting, fishing, gathering, woodsman ship, gardening, farming, wood working, metal working, common sense, etc are all being lost.

I advocate hunting. And the other things. We as civilized people owe it to our children to not forget our roots.

What do you mean? As in the number of people who hunt has dropped dramatically?

I think the reason is that in this modern day and age nobody in our society has any requirement at all to hunt. It just appeals to the animalistic part of us that gets a kick out of killing something.

If the kind of guy who owns 40 guns, beats his kids, has various animal heads all over the walls, drives a massive pickup truck, and doesn't take no **** from anybody is the type of hardcore settler persona that you aspire to have more of, then I'll say things are going ok.

Economic prosperity has eliminated the need for people to train themselves in the hard, physical type of tasks and skills that one living off of the land would need to have. It's pretty much common sense, this isn't a difficult question.

If society collapses then the "hardcore" people will have a big advantage, but I wouldn't count on that happening anytime soon and us reverting to hunter-gatherers. Fight Club was just a movie.

I most definitely agree. Our country has lost some of it's toughest souls. Too many of these punk little ******* are running around worrying more about how to wear their hair then things like keeping their testicles in tact lol. I blame it on public enemy number 1 however. The media. That's right.... they feed the nation bullshit every day. They play music that is pointless, repetative, and unoriginal. Said music's only point is to make kids think they're changing the world when really those poor helpless naive bastards are giving in to a well elaborated scheme to make the rich richer and the poor die alone. These kids these days are so oblivious as to how gullable they really are. The media tells them what to do and they do it. Go buy these shoes... they're cool....OK SOUNDS GOOD.....buy this cd it'll make your friends like you ..... I HATE THAT MUSIC BUT AT LEAST MY FRIENDS WILL LIKE IT WHEN I PLAY IT SO LOUD IT BLOWS OUR EAR DRUMS. The reason these kids aren't growing up tough is because they're getting used to not making hard decisions or toughing it out. They're getting used to being weak minded as well as weak spirited and their bodies take the toll as well. The media tells kids it's the government that is ******* them over because the easiest way to avoid being caught is by blaming the guy next to you. And our kids are too naive to realize it.
It's sad as ****.... we gotta do something.

...civilization did it, every time a country gets powerful the people get their balls amputated. In the old days, you went out and caught your food or you died. You sewed your own clothing or your froze to death. You had to depend on yourself. Now, even if you are a total failure in life, no worries, the government will pay for your useless existence. Want to sit at home all day drinking booze for breakfast, beer for lunch and eating food fit for a king for dinner from food stamps while giving nothing to society, sure, why not? People have no reason to take care of themselves.

Perhaps it is not as much as getting soft as it is adapting to new technology.

Can assure you the mountain men of old would gladly trade their rifles and knives for what is commonly used by today’s sportsman.

And their canoes would be sitting behind the cabin if they had access to the Jon boats, gas engines, and electric trolling motors we use everyday.

Also they would have liked to have “saddled” our 4x4 ATV’s too.

We of course appreciate what they had to endure. However they did it out of necessity.

I do still enjoy primitive camping. Also using modern technology for most of my hunting and fishing.

I think the outsiders who are coming to our country are nervous about having the natives well armed; they usually come from countries where people are unarmed victims; and subjects of governments which exist by keeping the people unable to defend themselves. Sounds like some of our liberal left wingers should consider going to these countries where they would feel right at home.

i blame the durn cities like NY and Chicago and LA. those places breed lazy, unmotivated,SS collecting, unwilling to work, drug pedleing retards that couldn't fight thier way out of a wet paper bag not even if the sights on their glock"45" were mounted on the side of the gun.sad part is i grew up in cleveland and as soon as i was old enough i got the hell out of there because i was on inside and saw what a piece crap way of life it was.what really kills me is that the majority of them don't believe that there is anything wrong with it.they actually believe that someone else is keeping them from leaving.that sounds more like a bad conspiracy movie to me.
