or can he just be on cows milk? he is currently on cow and gate next steps, but we have tried him for a week or so just on cows milk and he loves it just as much as his formula,he just gets a bit hungrier, so i was thinking, give him some fruit to snack on instead. would that be okay or does he still need his formula? answers from uk parents only please

Yes babies can tolerate cows milk from 12 months old, my 18 month old was born with a lactose allergy and couldnt be breastfed or have regular formula, he was prescribed a special formula from the doctor but he still always had stomach problems. From 11 months I gave him cows milk, it must be whole milk though you can not use skimmed or semi-skimmed until they are 2 and I have never had any problems with him, he actually loves it, also another tip which some people may find offensive is, if he is feeling a little run down put a drop of honey with it, I regularly do this with my littleun and he has a glowing complexion for it. The only trouble now is that he doesnt want milk any more only juice!!! Good luck..

Both of my children were on full cream milk (blue top in supermarkets) by 1 year, my first I did half formula & half cows milk for a week but the second went straight onto cows milk - it has to be full milk until 5 years old then you can use semi skimmed. HTH

he is old enough to be weaned off the formula as he should have a fairly wide variety of soft finger foods that he can feed himself. Some multivitamin drops for children could be given if he isn't much of a meat eater, but he should be on cows milk now if he has no allergy problems.

No he does not need formula after he turns a year old, cows milk is fine. He can also have regular food, fruits are very good for him to eat along with crackers and cheerios.

No Formula now. Just whole milk (3.5% MF Homoginized) and of course mushed up table food (without any salt) and/or jarred baby food. Keep him on whole milk for awhile unless he is getting overweight, if so, cut back the amount of milk or simply switch to 2%...
well thats how we do it in Canada! LOL

The WHO recommends breastfeeding until 2 yrs of age. Why not formula feed too? You're babies brain is still developing and needs the extra calories, fat (the correct type) and nutrition that they can not get from table food! I would also add fish oil and flax seed oil to your babies diet because it's lacking in Omega 3 fatty acids.
