Okay, I'm planning on getting two, male rats and I've been having issues deciding on a cage! Right now, I'm interested in the Super Pet Multi-Floor Ferret Home, ( http://www.petco.com/product/15487/Super-Pet-Multi-Floor-Ferret-Home.aspx ) and I was wondering if it's a decent sized cage for two rats, or if I should possibly go with the Deluxe version of the cage...? If there's any other cages you might suggest, feel free to let me know. :)

I own this cage for my two female rats and it is plenty big for them. I added some fun-nels on the bottom and a couple of other hammocks to give them more things to do. Don't use wire shelves, it is bad for their feet if you do consider a different cage. If you potty train your rats you won't have to worry about their poop staying on the shelves. The only thing I don't like about the cage is that the side latches come apart easily when you move it off to clean it and it is a little tough to get in to to organize.

But I have found that it is the best cage for the price and you can find it cheaper at ferret.com

That cage is plenty big enough. You didn't specify whether or not you were getting adult rats or not. If you're getting young rats, you may want to get a smaller rat cage to start them in because the space between bars on ferret cages is a bit larger than on a standard rat cage. Young rats may be able to squeeze through. If they are adults, though, no worries! Good luck. Rats make awesome pets!

Make sure the space between the bars is not too big. Some ferret cages are an 1' which a rat can fit thru.

Don't get your rats from a pet store, go to a breeder if you can. However, they've got some awesome cages. That one looks wonderful and they're going to love all of the room. Rats need at least 2'x2'x2' not to feel cramped. The only thing I see wrong with it is that waste is going to accumulate on those shelves. There's a tall version of this one ( http://www.petco.com/product/8335/Coast-Cages-Ritz-Chinchilla-or-Rat-Cage.aspx ) that I've seen at petco, which might be better. The shelves are made from bars, which will allow the urine and feces to go straight through. I've had this one for at least ten years for solo rats. I've got all of my girls in a ferret cage kindof like that one right now and the shelves are a pain to take out and clean. I usually end up sticking the whole thing in a hot shower to rinse off.

That's a great cage! I had a friend who has the deluxe one and it seems a little absurd for 2 rats, especially boys because they are total couch potatoes! She had some issues with her youngsters squeezing through the bars a few times so you may want a smaller cage as well in case you encounter similar troubles.

The only problem with that cage is that the bars run horizontal. Most rats can get through them, I knowmy girls can. So i had to get them the ferret nation (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752837&cp=2767038.2769317&fbn=Taxonomy%7CHabitats+%26+Cages&fbc=1&clickid=topnav_dropdown6_link6&parentPage=family&keepsr=1) it's way more expensive, but soooooo worth it. It's so easy to clean and they love it. I got 2 large cat litter pans 1 for each level to put their litter in. Remember you can't use pine or cedar, the oils will give them resperitory problems. Another site that has really good cages is http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/rat/
Good luck ; )

That's a fantastic cage, the same sort of size I'll be getting when I one day get my two rats. The only thing I think it's missing is a wheel - rodents must have a wheel!!

thats a grat cage, youve obviously done your research. just be careful if youre getting kits(babies) as they can slip right through the bars.. im actually raising money to get the cage your getting, if you plan on adopting babies i would get a small cage to put them in with bars close together.Good Luck
