I'm not a coffee drinker (although I love the taste) simply because I don't think it's a healthy habit. But I can see why people rely on it. Since I started my college courses again, I'm finding that my energy dips after two hours in science (where my eyes get all heavy), and I still have to go another 2 hours for lab.

Soooo, I need some coffee to help me out. But I was wondering, is there any way to make the coffee more effective? Maybe drinking it pure OR adding all the good stuff to it? Will instant coffee be the same?

Thanks : )

adding cream does nothing but change the taste & add calories.

adding sugar changes the taste, adds calories, and causes a brief increase in energy followed by a steep drop in energy (1 teaspoon will not show much effect, but 2 Tablespoons will)

brewed generally has more boost than instant.

often a piece of fresh fruit will have more of a steady energy boost and less of a drop off.

Coffee is a Drug, pure and simple. .It acts differently in combination with other nutrients like Milk and sugar. Since you are young, my advice to you is to use Coffe with Milk and sugar during Day time activities and use only plain coffee when trying to keep awake at night for sudy assignments. When you grow old, you will find that the same coffee helps you to get a Good Night's sleep by relaxing your blood vessels and thus reducing the activities of the muscular system.

Coffee is coffee. Regular caffeinated coffee would be effective with or without cream, unless you put in 1/2 a cup of cream.Rather than coffee try an energy bar, I love coffee but I drink it decaf. because of my health. Too much coffee can make you very jittery especially if you are not used to it,and I don't think that would be good for a lab or a test.

If you're not used to coffee, then it really doesn't matter if it's black or with sugar and cream.

However, the down side of sugar is that you'll get a spike in blood sugar and then a dip when the insulin kicks in which will make you tired after 30 to 40 minutes.

When I was the coffee king of claremont in SoCal about thirty-five years ago, I sold coffee in various shapes and grinds to most of the 26,000 students going to college there. When they were cramming for exams or just studying really hard they wanted some way to stay awake yet be able to sleep without getting up several times a night to pee. I used to sell them quarter pound packages of espresso beans. Chew 5 beans and swallow with a small sip of warm water. This kept them awake for about 4 hours and they still slept really well. Might work for you too.
