YES- they just don't give out as good a picture as hi-8, but they do work ok.

If you are asking if tapes recorded in the digital 8 format will work a hi8 camcorder for playback, then the answer is an absolute no! (vastly different recording system)

Blank Hi8 tapes are still widely available, Digital 8 can use either Hi8 or Video8 tapes to record digital 8. I have no clue about using D8 branded tapes to record on a Hi8 camera.

I wouldn't risk it, especially as most Hi8 tapes sold these days specify their D8 compatibility, I've never seen a D8 specific tape to actually confirm if they specify Hi8 recording system compatibility.

They should work. However as i understand it, digital 8 runs at twice the Hi8 speed, so a 1 hour D8 tape should be good for 2 hours in Hi8 mode.
